I just don’t think this is brave. It doesn’t get us anywhere really, even Championship level teams pretty much figured us out. I thought, and I expect many others, this season would turn out as it has. Doesn’t make me disrespectful to the manager, even saying it is vanity isn’t being rude. I think Martin is being disrespectful to us and the players by playing a way that is likely to send us down with a record low point total, and not so much about it as he wants to play his way. Management is about getting the most out of your team, flexing to their strengths, Martin is sticking pretty rigidly to his system. That is why to me it is pretty much a vanity project.
The way I see it is that the 'Martin way' means we are boring, predictable, concede stupid goals and don't score. We have given it a ¼ of a season and it hasn't 'clicked' yet. I'm willing to wage my next 10 years salary that it won't either.
Taking risks is brave, taking the right risks is good decision making Getting the most out of your team is pragmatism and isn’t really a viable long term strategy He came here with a way of playing and we employed him on that basis He is coaching the players to play that way and believes it is the most successful strategy, in the long term It got us promoted after a horrible start last season, it’s far more difficult in the Prem, obvs It also delivered one of the best footy days of my (& Mrs S’s) life, and for that we are truly grateful
Fair do’s I guess, each to their own. Do you believe this way of playing this season is going to be successful as in keeping us up , or do you think it will relegate us? And if you don’t think it will be successful, do you think the manager should continue to play this way, or find another way, or the club find another manager?
I don’t know but I’m not sure whether playing differently would either I definitely don’t think shipping in a journeyman to try and save us would help though and would be a bad idea for the longer term
But if we stick with Russ longer term, we go down. We (might) go up again. We go down. Rinse and repeat until we don’t go up again.
It’s not going to help us in the long term if we’re relegated. It’s probably too late, we should have got a journeyman in after 5 games. The best thing for the long term is staying in the PL.
Not sure anyone has mentioned bringing in a journeyman. In fact I wondered earlier if we may try to tempt Carsley.
I’d take a journeyman now. The football can’t get much more boring, we might pick up a few points. Mathematically we’re far from relegated, could pull off a great escape.
I'm looking for signs of improvement and adaptation and I'm not seeing them. There's belief and there's lack of ability. I'm veering heavily towards the lack of ability end of the spectrum now. Belief in something that doesnt exist is delusion and RM is truly kidding himself if he thinks that this side will be able to win games never mind survive in the premiership following these current principles. He has had games and international breaks to look at and address the costly errors and lack of attacking threat and its not improved even remotely to my eyes. Other teams make mistakes in possession but can recover - ours are soo costly that we invariably concede. Other teams turn possession into chances, we turn possession into vulnerabilities. Its not working Russ.
Sack the manager that got you promoted after 5 games … classy Cortese days were different days Where’s our next Poch, Mane, Morgan going to come from But, we might get clever/lucky, who knows?
Yes we got promoted, by the skin of our teeth. Many felt RM’s project was likely to fail in the PL. It was obvious by about 5-6 games that he wasn’t up to it. Another 5-6 games and surprise surprise there are no signs of improvement. Context.
The first 3 are doing what we did previously, how long will their days in the sun last? How about Leeds, Norwich, Coventry, Sunderland, the Sheffields etc?
