Burnley v Swansea Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Turf Moor Date - 10 November 2024 Kick off - 3pm Following their deserved 1-0 home win over Watford, next up for Luke Williams’ improving Swansea squad is a tricky looking trip to Automatic Promotion hopefuls Burnley. On Tuesday evening, the Swans moved closer to the Championship play-off places as Myles Peart-Harris' first goal for the club proved enough to see off Watford. Peart-Harris slid home from close range to give the Swans a deserved lead at the end of a first half which they dominated. Watford turned the game into more of a contest after the break, asking questions of Luke Williams' rearguard without ever creating a clear-cut chance to level. Having gone six games without a victory before their weekend triumph at Oxford United, the Swans are celebrating back-to-back league wins for only the second time this season. On Thursday evening, West Bromwich Albion's home goal drought continued as Burnley became the fourth side in seven games at The Hawthorns this season to play out a goalless draw. The Baggies still climbed two places in the Championship to fifth after drawing for the sixth game running. But it was their third straight home draw without a goal to leave Carlos Corberan's side, who were top in September, now winless in eight matches. They have only scored twice at home all season - both in 1-0 victories. Burnley, who have now failed to score in three games themselves, remain two points ahead of the Baggies in fourth, four points shy of the automatic promotion places. The Swans have played Burnley on 50 previous occasions, winning 17, losing 20 and drawing 13. The teams last met in the Championship in October 2022 when Burnley ran out emphatic 4-0 winners: Turning to tomorrow, given that Burnley have recently struggled for goals, and recognising that the Swans have one of the ‘meanest’ defences in the Championship, it would not be unreasonable to predict a 0-0 draw. Whilst I think that all Swans’ fans would be happy with a point, I think that Burnley will (unfortunately) rediscover their goal scoring boots and will run out comfortable 2-0 winners. Hope I’m wrong
I suspect we won't be so gung-ho going forward in this game and Luke will be more cautious. Which would be a shame, as why not go for it and go for a third win on the bounce. Especially with Burnley having a dull spell. Our confidence must be higher than theirs right now. I would much, much rather go down fighting than hope to get a point. Build on the optimism.
Winning breeds confidence so after 2 wins 3 could be just what we needed going forward to safety eventually ? 2-1 us
If we do lose this I hope we give a good account of ourselves and play with attacking intent as we did against Watford. There’s reason to be optimistic if we continue in that vein.
Maybe Watford had us read as negative side ways passing and back with no finishers, and had a shock when we went for it ? Do it again today as it's harder to read. Better to go down fighting than pussy footing about and lose !
