Neil has never shown the ability to box crash that Jobe has instinctively at four year his junior (approx). Additionally Neil cannot shoot, it's not part of his game and apart from one memorable strike the lad has shown a lack of ability to hit the target from the edge of the box on a good number of occasions. I think we need another defensive mid Jobe progress this season and the emergence of Rigg means there's no guarantee of a start as an 8 for the 'captain'.
I really don’t see it as a problem of squad depth. IMO it’s about RLB and trust. He’s not a manager who changes things with subs. I think he views subs as primarily there for injury. But this then means that the players on the fringes rarely get a chance to acclimatise. Yesterday he put on senior players that he trusts and then hoped to get a coherent shape out of it. If there’s one area I don’t agree with him, it’s this.
I agree with it though. Play your best players Seeing people crying for Aleksic yesterday with Browne going off and I probably thought it too but after a think can you thrown a 19 year old lad on who doesn’t speak English in a moment like that.
It probably is that, unfortunately I've watched the championship long enough and I know if you don't rotate your squad it will catch up with eventually
Different story if our squad was fit but unfortunately our depth got knocks and injuries it can’t be helped.
Be surprised if we sign a striker in the winter. Isidor has it pretty much nailed down and Mayenda has shown real ability as well. With the other lad to get fit, and Connolly, I think we will target the midfield and the full back positions.
Good post mate. One of the lads next to me yesterday said something similar about our willingness to give up possession in games. It seems something Regis is doing as a coach. Are there any stats about us this season that show it a bit? The subs with 20 mins to go showed that was the plan. Maybe with bodies back he would have made a different call. I have felt we have been recruiting to he a possession heavy team since Speakman came in. The majority of our players are the sort of players who want the ball to feet and are happy to take it in really tight spaces. I hope and think it is a journey Regis is taking the youngsters on. Teaching them to see out games and be resilient, before letting the handbrake off a bit more.
I am a fan of his. I have patience. We all know his past troubles. Funny how we are all picking the bones out of the last 3 games. We still sit top and are in good shape. We have new players learning about us, a new coach in a new league learning, and we are top! I think Connolly, Browne etc will all have their part to play as the season goes on. I said earlier I still fancy us for top 2, we can improve quite a bit still imo.
We’ve conceded possession every game it’s the play style. But it just gets highlighted more when we lose. Luckily in 13 games we haven’t been beat because the play style works usually. You will unfortunately get games like yesterday
Think he suits play style more than neil. Physical DM to see us through pressure. Neil better if we’re controlling games
Around the bottom for things like possession, passes completed and touches. It's hard to complain about the style as we are top, however my concern is about how sustainable it is. A lot of possession stats are skewed by game state and because we've been ahead in a lot of games it's natural that the opponents will have more of the ball, however when you look at games like Preston where it's 0-0 against a pretty poor side we need to be controlling the ball, but in the end they had 130 more passes than we did and created a lot more than we did. Another concern I have is that we aren't creating a lot of chances. Midtable for xG, xG per shot, shots, shots on target, big chances created. Like I said, it's hard to complain because we're top. However, I'm not sure how sustainable our current style of play is and I want more from us in terms of control and chance creation.
