Yep. Spot on. That's exactly what I have been saying re Dan Neil for a while. Yday was the prime example of it. The second it got tough he started to lose runners Rudoni specifically and he turned over the ball loads. We miss Jobe so much. Adds that physical that we need when people step to us.
I've been trying to avoid mentioning Dan Neil in my posts since yesterday, I don't want to appear to be on a mission with the lad. But he's like an albatross around my neck at the moment. Everyone makes mistakes but his seem to really cost us. His pass to Connolly was dreadful and he kept losing runners which eventually lead to the equaliser. I'm totally aware of his contribution and think he's a good player. I do, however, find it annoying that people keep defending him by saying 'there's a lot, of what he does, that people don't see'. No, I see it, I really do. I'm not myopic but I'm starting to tire of being told he's 'learning a new role', very young or being targeted just because he's local. On the contrary I think his mistakes are being too readily excused for those reasons ... ... not having a better option doesn't mean he's doing the job we need. It may be that Neil would be better suited to the PL. Coventry arrived with powerful lads at the back and, as soon as they pushed on, our midfield looked so lost I was even looking at Hume and O'Nien and wondering.
I wouldn't be against seeing Browne as the 6 with Jobe and Rogg in front of him, I think Browne has certain physical and mental qualities that lend him to doing that job better than Neil, that or LON at 6 and Ballard-Mepham in defence. Not that we need radical changes, we're playing excellently and yesterday was a bump in the road, something we know will happen this season.
Thought it was more of a deflection, we seem to have a knack for every deflection and random bounce turning into inch perfect through balls for the opposition.
Yeah me too. Wilson has to be through the middle. We need to ensure he plays there when on the pitch.
Connolly is good when his team is attacking as a unit, not when the game is stretched imo. That's when you need height and legs.
It wasn’t really a perfect deflection, O’nien stopped because he thought we won the ball and Wright just drifted in behind him so when the ball was deflected he ran straight onto it unchallenged. If he stayed goalside he could’ve stayed with the striker imo. One of them that probably happens several times every match and falls favourably but you need to be on your toes for the time it doesn’t
Was annoyed with him for not playing Isidor in who was wide open, it was such an obvious pass I couldn't believe he didn't take it.
I was a bit more than surprised when Reggie sent on Connolly and put Isador out wide when a more logical change would have been to bring Watson on in his natural position on the left wing rather than pull Isador out wide when it did not work at all at Preston , realise Watson didn’t have a good time at Preston but he was playing on the opposite wing but would think he was due a chance on his natural side - square pegs in round holes does not tend to work .
