They were as ****ed as we are when he came in. I’d take him over Martin all day long. When you say we could do much better, I don’t know who you mean.
I’m sticking with what I have said before. We’re pretty much doomed so sticking with RM shouldn’t be an option until the end of the season. If SR want to stick with him a bit longer, then so be it, but if results continue as they are, then he needs to be replaced early next year to give the new manager time to assess the squad and have some input in the transfer window and pre-season. I don’t think RM’s style of play will be as effective in future games because I don’t think teams will sit back and let his team knock the ball around, when it has become increasingly obvious that a hard, quick press will cause us to concede goals and a solid back 5 will keep us out. Having said that we do have a bunch of flat track bully strikers who do well at a lower level.
Yeah and if we didn’t an already toxic atmosphere (I’m assuming if we carry on like we are for a full season the atmosphere won’t be great) would continue when we are in a great position to come back. It’s too much of a risk for the board to take to keep him on for next season unless we improve results wise now and make a real go of staying up As I said in my edit as well, given the likely squad and financial muscle we will have next year in comparison to other clubs in the Champ there will be a lot of managers who could get us promoted
He wasn’t even good in the championship. This is what’s baffling. Yes, fair play and thank you for getting us up. But we weren’t particularly amazing for a club with our budget. It wasn’t like Adkin’s promotion season where we clearly were one of the best teams in the league. I find it absolutely mad that SR are persisting with this.
What’s interesting is that they tried to get Maresca before Martin, so you’d hope they’re looking at someone like Rohl or whoever as possibles, risky or not.
I am with you here. We won't getva decent manager to keep us up. If we stick with Martin we go down, and then get promoted, bit I think he will be too proud to change his style in the prem and it will be rinse and repeat. I suggested Adam, two weeks ago, and was rudely called stupid or words to that effect.... but there is a winner who knows to play attacking winning football. Give him the project, given that we we be relegated, but it gives him 8 months to mould the team for promotion.
I would rather watch lallana manage the team and go down than watch this **** for the rest of the season.
He won’t get us up next year. I’m convinced of that. He’s been found out & even at Championship level we’ll be way off.
You can never look back and the writing was on the wall. We sacked Ralph after 14 games with 12 points. Almost a point a game, that would keep you up. I know the lows etc. Compared to where we are now and after him. I think we maybe under recognised the challenges he was trying to deal with to survive in the prem. The next three have not had a clue
I know, this is why I was so annoyed SR ****ed up so badly. If you can get 12 points in 14 games you can stay up.
Surely got to go now. Whilst I don't think there's enough quality in this squad to stay up I think there's certainly enough to make us more competitive than we have been. The other thing is that he's not really improved in the time he's been here. All of the areas were he falls short are still just as much of an issue now as they always have been. Namely not being able to coach a defence, tactically inflexible ,strange starting line ups and subs, and being so ridiculously open on transitions. I just don't think he's a particularly good manager tbh. He's a par for the course manager and has never exceeded expectations anywhere.
Yeah I thought Ralph’s time was up. If we had normal owners, it was the right time for him to go so we could improve. But we don’t. We have SR who are absolutely terrible. So in hindsight we absolutely should have kept Ralph and just given him dragan’s cheque book
If Moyes is available and willing to come to Saints, you absolutely do it. He's an experienced Premier League manager, who is prepared to mix up the style of play (something that RM wont) Get him in now where we still have a glimmer of hope of staying up.
Russell Martin: Southampton boss defiant as Saints lose again - BBC Sport Doesn't sound like he's close to the sack TBH.
Really don't think he'd come. Why would he want an almost certain relegation on his CV when his stock is the highest it's been since Everton?
