To back this up, we've now played 11 games (only three of which have been against top 9 teams) and only scored two goals after our opponents have scored. And on both occasions we were already 3-0 down. All our others goals come prior to our opponents scoring, when naturally they're not so focused on keeping us out. So of course we're not regaining any points from losing positions, because we're barely even scoring when in a losing position.
I appreciate that it's a small point in the grand scheme of things, but I still can't get on board with Paul being anywhere good enough for this league. Now granted, that applies to most of our forwards. But Paul is just totally not suited to us. Things are bad enough as it is, but it feels like we make it even harder for ourselves when we bring him on. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
Nah come on. You know even if it was 1-1 we’d have duffed it. We had plenty of time & opportunities at 1-0 to make an impact against a very ooor side even after the VAR fu. Were a busted flush with RM. Even next, if we continue.
I think that this game sums up everything that is wrong with the Saints at the moment, no aggression, no fight and as somebody else has mentioned all possession but no purpose. We're a tedious watch, so pedestrian at times with no threat whatsoever whereas Wolves on the counter-attack looked like they could cut through our defence at will. I don't believe our squad is that bad, certainly no worse than the 3 teams above us and remember we only have to get to 17th place and amazing enough were only 3 points behind Crystal Palace but I do strongly believe that with RM at the helm we are almost guaranteed relegation. I think we got lucky last week and unlucky this but that still doesn't hide the fact that RM's tactics and overall managerial ability isn't good enough at Premiership level and his weaknesses and stubbornness are being brutally exposed week in and week out. Surely there is a team there under the right stewardship that could survive? What we need is an experienced Premiership manager that will play a pragmatic style and do away with this RM experiment, unfortunately I can see SR either carrying on with this failure or employing some left-field "Oh look at us, we're so clever at reinventing football" appointment from the Dutch third division just because his side has good possession stats.....doh
Sheffield Utd were one of the worst PL sides ever and managed 16 points with 3 wins and 7 draws last season. Pretty low bar I know, but I feel like we have quite a bit more quality in our side than they did, and yet even getting to 16 points looks out of our grasp as it stands. If our football wasn’t so fun it would be rather depressing
It was a no brainer for him really. He could either sit and do nothing at Arsenal or come to us for likely 1 year and play. Even if we stay up if another club needs a keeper he would be attainable from us
Dam! I’m convinced (again). To be serious tho, wrt the referring decisions I agree but we’ve got to play higher tempo football. Even if that results in a 2-0 loss. This is getting us absolutely nowhere, slowly, side2side, backwards, across ….
“How dominant we are with the ball and in the final third, it’s really not easy in the Premier League that. So we have to make the most of that, and we’re not.” That part I do have a little bit of sympathy for.
Yes, until you realise that 2 of our front 3 were Manning and Armstrong so I don’t know what he was expecting in terms of chances
I find the comment about damaging young players pertinent. They will carry damage getting beaten week after week trying to play this style
But it’s his tactics doing it!! He doesn’t play to the strengths of the players. Archer never gets played in or receives crosses in the box. We STILL haven’t crossed a ball to tall paul. Every time he brings on the big guy, he takes off the wingers that can cross it. corners never beat the first man. Free kicks go into row Z. Moronic manager.
Sorry to harp on but we only have to look at our PL game stats. Possession = zilch. We’re definitely where we should be & although you can argue we should have additional points after the Leicester & Ipswich games but arguably lucky last week. Unless we change manager, we’ll continue exactly the same & come whenever timeframe you wish to pick, RM will still be nice & saying same things. After last weeks scratchy win, I was hoping he wouldn’t come out & do the hey, hey, hey thing. Some might have said why but I thought it was an opportunity to do something different. Said already m, imo he’s busted. Whether SR do anything is a finger in the air. I’m so despondent.
