We seen Dylan in the arena(I think) about 20 years ago ! It was all seated though and not that good an atmosphere unfortunately for the legend that he is
The Bob Dylan concert, last night, was beyond music. Through my work, and my love of music, I’ve literally seen thousands of gigs but none were anything like last night. If you don’t get Dylan I couldn’t explain why and if you do I don’t need to. You couldn’t apply any of the normal rules, it wasn’t a show or a performance. It was more like being allowed into a mystical world where you knew not to speak or be involved, just experience it all. A few wanted to clap along to the ‘rockier’ numbers but that didn’t last long. People hadn’t come for audience participation, or to hear their favourites, it was just the privilege of being there. It was almost like we were peeking through a window watching him write songs and try them out with his band. The structure was irrelevant and some songs were unrecognisable at first, as usual the arrangements, tempo and sound were entirely changed. Yet somehow they were the same songs. The closest to the original was the final number and one I love, Every Grain of Sand, which brought a tear to my eye, in fact both eyes
Pure poetry Smug, so pleased you had a great night. What you said about "getting Dylan" made me smile. I took my wife to see him and after the show I asked her what it felt like being in the presence of genius, she said "I thought the band were excellent." Bloody philistine
To be fair the band were excellent last night as well. They have to be total pros because it’s like Johnny Marr having Morrissey singing ‘over the music’ if you know what I mean. In all honesty I doubt he’d have won many new fans if that had been broadcast last night. It’s gone beyond music now. It was knife edge stuff at times, you thought he’d never get to the piano, mike or harmonica in time but it was faultless despite the arrangements being complicated and nothing like the originals. I’ve absolutely no idea how he does it all … … it’s like an illusion you can’t quite grasp. People would be asking for their money back if any other artist played their music ‘back to front’, had no crowd interaction and walked off without a wave … … he’s the RLB of music
One of my favourite ever debut albums. Such mature songwriting for a young lass, some written when she was just 14.
Ive never heard that before. Sounds like someone has put Ace Of Spades lyrics over Whorehouse Blues. I like it though.
