The Democrat supporting news channels edited one of Harris’s inane ramblings to make her appear less stupid than she is. Like the way it is Trump but with Harris it is Kamala. No signs of bias there.

A bit like Labour MPs pretending they are from humble backgrounds and deleting the fact they went to fee paying schools.

I imagine all the big authoritarians have taken a leaf out of Hitler’s book at some point.

The worry is, that a lot of Trump’s people have actively said he wants “generals like Hitler had” and keeps referring to Nazi stuff behind the scenes. If it was just one, yeah you’d probably go “disgruntled employee lying”. But it’s a lot of people who spent years working closely with him.

I don’t think he’ll go full on Hitler, I’d hope America can at least resist that, but the instigation of the Alien Enemies Act was what led to Japanese Americans being interred in detention camps like Manzanar. That’s what he has said.

We had it with “build the wall”. Everybody said he wouldn’t do it, then he tried to do it. People seem to think he speaks in hyperbole or engages in semantics, but his track record suggests he is very literal.

The craziest part of Trump’s first term was when he said ‘it’s fascist time!’ and made the United States into a one-party totalitarian state. Hope he doesn’t do it again if he gets elected.

But that’s exactly my point, why are you comparing the two as if both hold the same amount of merit? It’s like comparing stepping on somebody’s toes to deliberately chopping off their leg.

Yes, it’s wrong to edit footage for favourability, but how is that the same as Fox spreading election lies on Trump’s behalf? Or him going to Murdoch and telling him not to run Kamala ads on Fox that attack him?

People keep trying to balance the scales like they’re both objectively as bad as each other and it’s so maddening because they clearly aren’t, Trump is far worse.

I saw an article about his claims of growing up in poverty, apparently it's quite common for politicians to overstate where they've come from, it's been nicknamed 'poornography'.

I was thinking more of the planned economy, building enough social housing so ex forces didn't have to sleep on the streets. Build enough infrastructure like schools hospitals and yes prisons to suit the population and their needs. An planned education system that ensures we end up with enough plumbers electricians and engineers rather than thousands of media study graduates laden with debt that they will never pay back working in macdonalds and no apprentices to do things.

But we're going of track and this is the USA election thread

Him not winning the next election seems to cast some doubt on that claim.

I think that was around the same time that he said that his protégé's name was JD Vance, and he couldn't wait to make him President.

Ever go to any of the former communist states? It was nothing like that except for the plenty of prisons.

Trump’s no different than Berlusconi. Even if he does get re-elected, it will not be the ‘death of democracy’ like some drama queens said it would be in 2016 and again in 2024.

Yet doing the same for Trump is sane washing? More like they didn’t want to show what an incoherent fruitloop she is.

Lived in them since 1995. OK it was after the fall of the iron curtain but talked to plenty of people who were there at the time.

Wonder if all those celebs will be threatening to leave if Trump wins like they did last time? Threatening being the operative word as none of them did.

In 1995 they were nothing like they were prior to the fall of communism. Notice none of them have voted to return to communism.

Even though he's publicly stated that if he gets voted in this time, then no-one will need to vote again?

You won’t know if Harris, I don’t know her well enough to constantly refer to her in first name terms, until, or if, she gets elected.

How much time have you spent living in former communist countries before or after the fall of the iron curtain?
EDIT, for an answer to the second point many of those countries went back to or even remained being run by a version of the former ruling party. They may have a different name but many are nationalist type parties.
