not a dig at Labour but thought this might provide a bit of humour; https://x.com/notfarleftatall/status/1851690594122321983?s=48&t=al5lW5vYk-lj7tevzmU-dw
Unbelievable that we are still hearing about Truss crashing the economy after this debacle this week. To be honest we are all f****d anyway while these Blairites on both sides just target making everything a playground of big corp. Can't believe I am hearing Labour commentariat talking about this farm thing stopping monopolies and making big business pay their fair share when what they've done is put up policies that favour the big boys that can afford to soak up these costs. Most of these policies are ideology driven that target small, but headline worthy, benefactors of loopholes but they've completely ignored that pushing on with these policies is gonna end up hitting the very people they say they were trying to protect in the first place. But I have no answers because on both sides we have modern Neo-Libs that don't actually favour business itself, just multiCorp big boys and no matter the spin (they really can't be so naive that they believe they are helping the little guys) thats what all new era NeoLibs do! Germany still being held up as examples the UK should follow while its economy makes ours (before this week at least) look postively optimistic and then they talk up France as well while its economy is teetering on the brink. We're all doomed guys. There are no other options. These guys that now run the world make Thatcher and Reagan look like angels! And not helped by the OBR's dodgy calculator misfiring constantly. We can thank George Osborne for that disaster. How on earth did they miscalculate their analysis for Reeves by so far? And then Reeves on TV today announcing that "because of these tough measures we will not be borrowing anything in a few years? This sounds very familiar. Similar to announcements made before "Tory austerity" and we were still borrowing at the end of that despite how "austere" they were. I hope you all have good jobs! A lot of us are going to be hoping for the best at the bottom end where jobs are not very secure at all, and if this ends up turning into a recession even more of us will be in trouble.
A high salary for investigating billions of fraudulent spending and getting value for money? It’s a ****in bargain if he does that Well done yourself
Doesn't explain why a guy with a history of overspending on budgets gets the job of "value for money tsar" .lol. But then maybe the rotating wheel stopped on him so it was his turn for the next job for the boys.
Can’t deny that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, but the cost is minimal if it’s a successful appointment
Was surprised Labour didn't address the ridiculous child benefit inequality by not assessing total household income. Always seems a strange way to calculate, no matter which government is in the building. Surprised as many on here don't like inequality, but expect this may favour them so that's ok. Saying that, I may be getting the wrong end of the stick, not an area I'm overly familiar with, like I say just surprised people haven't complained on here about the way the system is bent.
https://x.com/martinslewis/status/1852389999817150771?s=46 Huge hidden stamp duty rides coming in April. If anyone is thinking of moving. How the **** is this a budget for working people? Clobbering first time buyers. Clobbering anyone that wants to move. Destroying farmers. Disaster for small businesses. Horrendous. What a ****ing triumph
"Stamp duty change expected to spark homebuying rush" "At the moment, buyers of homes worth less than £250,000 don't pay stamp duty. This was doubled from £125,000 under Liz Truss's mini-Budget in September 2022. The threshold is £425,000 for those buying their first property. This was raised from £300,000 as part of the mini-Budget" "These higher thresholds will end in March 2025, when they are expected to revert to previous levels. £0-£250,000 (£425,000 for first-time buyers) = 0% £250,001-£925,000 = 5% £925,001-£1.5m = 10% £1.5m+ = 12%" "The Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced an increase in the amount of stamp duty paid by second-home buyers, landlords and companies. The higher rate paid on additional properties will rise from 3% to 5% from 31 October. There had been speculation the the government might cancel a planned cut in residential stamp duty thresholds in March 2025, but it has not done so." "Home sales will "jump" at the beginning of next year as people try to buy before the rise in stamp duty, one of the UK's biggest lenders has predicted. From March 2025, changes introduced in Wednesday's Budget mean many will pay the tax when they would not have done previously. Nationwide said this would affect one fifth of first-time buyers. However, the impact of these changes is not expected to be as big as previous ones because high interest rates are still putting off buyers." "He added that the changes, which only apply to England and Northern Ireland, had been expected, meaning they will likely have less effect than changes in 2020 and 2016"
Yeah, doesn't bother me as my 'child' is 34. However it is madness if I have this right, that a couple could earn £49,999 each and get child benefit (£99,998/yr household income) or one could be working part time for say £10k and the other earns £50k and they get nothing.
It's an anomaly that needs addressing I'm sure there's a number inequities that need attention I have more confidence in the new government to take action than I had in those since 2010.
https://www.gov.uk/government/stati...by-local-authorities-in-england-2024-to-2025# "Council Tax levels set by local authorities in England 2024 to 2025 (revised) Updated 8 May 2024 The average Band D council tax set by local authorities in England for 2024-25 will be £2,171, which is an increase of £106 or 5.1% on the 2023-24 figure of £2,065. This includes all precepts including adult social care and parish precepts." This may well spread to more local councils. Leaving property empty has to be made an unattractive option. https://www.localgov.co.uk/Authorities-propose-council-tax-rises-on-second-and-empty-homes/61390 "South Cambridgeshire District Council has put forward plans to double council tax on both long-term vacant and second properties. "North West Leicestershire District Council has also proposed charging second homeowners double council tax, as well as charging people council tax from the first day they own an empty property, rather than after a month."

With most of the ERG members gone, she could easily do this and make it official party policy!!
