I thought he mainly managed in the Nordic countries? yea still abroad but standard won’t be high. Was more talking about English coaches going to Spain/itsly/germany/frande/holland, go and pick up a mid table club there and push them into the CL. Slot took over a team probably comparable to our mid table prem club and took them into the CL and then won the league. That gets his name mentioned here

Hodgson spent a long time building his contacts and schamoozing the uefa channels.

He was a manager for 38 years! (Apparently) the only things he won were really in Sweden and demark and he never won a thing in the big leagues or international arena.

A very classic case of contacts and right places rather than actually delivering.

A nice guy but a negative, conservative type of coach.

But a guy who would never have got the chances he got if he had not gone and took the chances and experience out there in the big world.

He's one of that group of managers who can take a struggling team and make them presentable, but hasn't got what it takes to succeed at the top. He's made a long career out of his limited skills, and he obviously loves the game - which is why he's kept on going until he's got one foot in the grave.
He was never right for us, but can't blame him for taking it on, it was the people who appointed him who really should have known better - but they didn't seem to look any further back than his decent effort with Fulham.

That seems a very fair way to put it.

He can organise a side and get them to play a certain way to reduce goals against but he's a straight jacket that prevents games being won at the same time.

Palace fans couldn't wait to see rhe back of him in the end (twice)
