Mmm, Tool definitely aren't Nu-Metal.

 

Really dislike Tool personally. About 5 or so years ago when I was really getting into prog rock I'd never given them the time of day until a friend made me promise I'd listen to Lateralus regularly and that I would find that it was a 'revelation in progressive music'. After spending a good few weeks with the album I enjoyed half of the first track and none of the rest of the album. Honestly found it painfully dull, repetitive and it certainly had very little 'prog' about it despite how much he claimed it did.
I tried revisiting it a year or so later to see if my opinion had changed and it hadn't. The only reason I'm mentioning this is because I think they must be the only band I can think of where I absolutely completely do not understand where the hype comes from. I can see people being fans of their stuff as an average band, but some people seem to hold them in supremely high status as though they create genius music and I just can't begin to grasp why.

 

I don't get the massive hype that comes with their music. I like that album and a few off their other work but I'm not a massive fan, they're good if I'm in the mood for something a tad different to what I usually listen to.

 

I don't actually like Tool either, just know that they aren't classified as Nu-Metal.

 

Yeah, maybe I'll end up trying again some day. Seems unlikely I'll enjoy it but I don't like missing the joke.

I haven't heard much of Tool, but I don't really like the sound of them, and the songs I've heard of them sound a lot like nu-metal to me.

 

You sure it was Tool you listened too?

 

I've heard a song called Schism, the song above and a couple of others, but my viewing of them is stretched over like a 4 year period.
