The fact they haven't the assets/resources to support a pyramid league structure anymore tells you all you need to know about the state of RL. The sport hasn't got a pot to piss in by comparison. Big fish in a small pond mentality.
Rugby League season stops mid September, except for play offs which could be until mid October and doesn't start again until mid February - ie 4 to 5 months - so not playing for 17 to 20 weeks
Blackburn, Wigan and Burnley have all won things since I got interested in football. Which makes you wonder why our club from a bigger city couldn’t. Admittedly Blackburn was down to Jack Walker but since I got interested in football in 1957 got to a Cup Final and have spent 26 seasons in the top flight compared to our flight. Their record crowd in a place smaller than Hull is bigger than Liverpool’s.Wigan who only joined the Football League in 1979 have spent 8 seasons in the top flight compared to our 5.
We have had richer owners than him though. Wish we had spent the same percentage of our time in the league in the top flight as they have.
Ah, the time before FFP was a serious consideration. Bartlett was paper wealth that disappeared overnight in 2008. Pearson had to borrow to finance us, was Assem really more wealthy than Whelan or are you referring to someone else?
I would say the Needlers were more wealthy in comparative terms. I would be pretty sure Allan was wealthier than Whelan. Going back to the 1950s and 1960s Harold Needler was wealthier than a lot of owners. The club from the little town of Burnley was owned by a butcher but won the League and the Cup. What changed things was the abolition of the maximum wage. There wasn’t the incentive to move as much as you wouldn’t earn any more playing for a supposed glamour club.
Saturdays attendance could be affected by Rugby Internationals. RL England v Samoa RU England v New Zealand Doubt we will make 15,000
Makes me laugh Its a good job the qpr game was on the 1st of october As we only scored 2 other goals in the whole month **** me Embarrassing having a goal of the month for so little goala
Belloumi is left-footed so I find it really surprising that we haven’t seen this at any point. If we’re going to play someone out of position on the left, it might as well be a player that wouldn’t have to cut in to make a cross.
This makes no sense at all. Belloumi and Kamara are both left footed. Belloumi clearly loves cutting in from the right and whipping shots off, and Kamara has shown he's pretty good at putting teasing crosses in behind the defence from the left. Guaranteed, if they were playing the other way around, people would be calling for them to play the way around they are now.
Sometimes i think why dont we try switching the wingers for even 10 mins It might cause some uncertainty in the defenders etc But theres no way walters not thought about it So must be a reason as to why
We used to last season under LR, Philogene and Zaroury would switch. Maybe too complex a concept for TIm.
Thats why i brought it up It seems such a simple tactical switch, that gives the defending team more questions to answer But walter seems very rigid on our wingers positions
