I don’t believe anyone will be allowed to buy the land tbh …

… it’s all tied up in covenants with the Freemen of the city.

NUFC would have to pay for the demolition of the stadium and restoration of the site if they left. If it was for sale Ashley would’ve grabbed it imo.

If the football club left I believe it the land would be username for a sporting complex, pool, and 10,000 capacity stadium. My Mag family in the Chopwell area know people in the city of Newcastle and have always talked about why SJP is ‘protected’. Sadly for them it’s a bit of a crumbling relic that needs major structural work … so I’m told.

What they going to use that stadium for though? They have the rugby ground end the Eagles built a stadium 3 year or so back for the basketball team.

Everything is for sale if the price is right mate. That’s worth a fortune. It would be more student housing. That’s millions in contracts to build them millions year on year guaranteed in rent, and spitting distance of the University.

I think it would be aligned to the University.

I honestly don't believe that land can be sold, it's supposed to be for the good of the citizens.

I'm just repeating what I've always been told and they are well connected in Newcastle.

As Smug rightly says the land that SJP is built on, belongs to the city, not to NUFC.

Easiest route for the Saudis is to build somewhere else (Longbenton?).

Don't know much about who the land belongs to or where they can or cannot build but I'm sure John hall has an idea of building a mega stadium at the Metro centre site to have them and us playing there. Could that be an option for them or did I hear wrong as I know there would be no chance in hell we would move there

I remember telling my mag physio that they should relocate the training ground and academy to London so they could attract better players. The stupid ****er lapped it up, completely missing the point

Who are you talking about wanting the land the ground is on? The Saudis? Or someone else.

Perhaps they could build in that there London, much easier to attract mercenaries, sorry, players and easier to fly into Heathrow from Saudi.

It would work. But I don't think the Saudis are interested in a money return. It's all about applying make up.

What does appear to be the case is that the whole thing is proving harder than they thought it would be. The Saudis don't have many virtues, and of those they might possess, patience is not among them.

Perhaps they've realised that not spending endless money is a better look ...

... then it can appear more like the plucky investment company trying to compete with Man City and the big clubs.

Boris Johnson, who set this up, isn't there to protect them any longer so they have to take more care.

I honestly don't think that's the case mate. The money they could make from that bit of land is insignificant in comparison to their wealth and what they make from oil etc...

It's more understandable them chucking money away to sportwash. Now they are going to get a world cup and the fact they are being restricted in their spending has took the shine off the mags and they probably not as arsed anymore

I don't believe they will be interested in millions when they think in billions!

It’s an investment fund mate. Its literal purpose is to maximise as many revenue streams as possible.

Aye, for things that's are easily bought. But don't think they would go through the hassle of buying the mags investing in the playing squad etc... to get their hands on some land the ground is on.

They will have easier investments available.

They wanted them to sportsmanship but success hasn't been instantly bought, a concept I bet is quite alien to them! They seem to have got bored if anything. Also the fact they have started investing in other spots aswell as football in their country and buying sorry I mean winning the chance to hold a world cup.

Maybe I'm a being a bit thick but they could buy land in many city centres in easier ways surely?

I think that's all pretence tbh.

Any investment fund, worth it's salt, would stay well away from football imo.

Short was a clever businessman who'd made a fortune ...

... bought Sunderland and lost one.

I agree. I think they are so rich making money off their investments is second to looking like normal businessmen as opposed to the oppressive regime they are.
