I've noticed there are plenty of suggestions for the next Man Utd manager but, Potter apart, they're all foreign. Aren't there any English coaches who'd fit the bill. I always here they should be given a chance at the top clubs ... ... now, even the National manager is a German.
I think in 5/10 years there will be a really good set of English head coaches as the work the FA has been doing will start to bear fruit. However, right now I think Potter is the only one good enough for the role.
I dont think their fan base would give a young English or British coach the time. Southgate would be a good fit but they wont take to him. McKenna has a hell of a lot going for him but again I just dont see their fans being happy. They have hounded some really big names like Van Gaal and Mourinho out. They are a self-entitled bunch imo. I would think Howe, Southgate, Potter would all walk into the building with experience enough to do the right sort og job. I think McKenna and Carrick are both interesting candidates if they really are prepared to go long term. I am big fan of what Gary O'Neil has done too. Man Utd will get ahead of themselves though and appoint somebody that they see fitting their club size, not necessarily someone who coach their players to be better. My guess anyway. They are probably agreeing terms with Regis now for all I know
The funny thing is Arsenal fans absolutely love Arteta, who’s won nothing after spending a fortune, yet United fans wanted ETH out and he won a domestic trophy. For what it’s worth Arsenal are clearly the much better club at the minute but they’ve still won nothing and look really underwhelming whenever they play in Europe. I guess that’s what stems from one club being used to success and the other not experiencing as much.
Ratcliffe will be driving this....he'll want someone he can trust to build a side....Eddie Howe. He's already got management people in place who know him well....the Mags are going to be squirming! It's going to be mint! They'll settle deal with the cloth-heads,and in January,Isaak and Gordon will follow......happy days!
Amorim would be the perfect t appointment in reality, but he won’t walk from Sporting this season while he believes they can compete in Europe. They need an Ancelotti. They should go for a Potter. They will end up with Solskjaer.
All in for Zidane imo. Worked with big players/egos at Madrid, knows a few of their stars already. His reputation in the game could really attract some quality players to help turn the club around.
Arteta has built a beautiful, stunning to watch side that is a top striker away from potentially winning the lot. ETH has a squad full of players on outrageous contracts who are either over the hill. Or not good enough and not sellable due to wages. Arsenal is a work in progress whereas United is just a train wreck.
Rather than prevaricate I'll be blunt about what I think when I see those names. It's not a question of badges, experience or background ... ... they just look a bit shuffling, mumbling and downbeat. Only Potter has a bit of swagger about him in my opinion. When you look at the foreign managers they all look fired up, arrogant and confident. When there's a muli-national squad, often top internationals, I think they respond primarily to a bit of presence and arrogance. Ferguson, Shankly, Clough all had that but you rarely heard them indulge in 'Lee Johnson manager-speak' that sounds clever but, in my opinion, causes confusion especially in younger players. And that's wot I fink.
I agree. Potter went to Chelsea and couldn’t handle the dressing room so united would be worse for him. I think the likes of him and Howe enjoy being the underdog story, you need someone with a bit of arrogance who’ll take no ****. Then again Mourinho tried and failed!

You could well be right. Sometimes though these arrogant coaches crash and burn as well. Van Gaal and Mourinho. Then we have the so called great continental tactician in Ragnick, or the disciplinarian in Ten Haag. When I look at Man Utd I see a club that have always had a certain identity. Always had players from their academy. Always had a playing style. Always had a bit of a swagger about them. Since Fergie went that has all been allowed to evaporate for me. They seem to have lurched from bad appointments to more bad appointments. Moyes never looked a good fit, Solksjaer was a mad appointment. Mourinho had a good season but arguably never fit the mould of a Man Utd manager as I see them. I think this time they need to take stock of what they want to be. If they want to go back to the sort of club that is built from the ground up, with players not being bigger than the team, they need a different type of appointment. Someone who will gradually get rid of the players who are more about themselves, and create a team. That sort of coach could be from a variety of backgrounds to be honest. I mentioned Thomas Frank as someone I think could be perfect. I tend to think it will be another vanity appointment though, unless Ashworth and Brailsford can really get on the same page.
Said to my mate earlier that I would go for him or Hoeneb - the job he's done at stuttgart has been unreal Every appointment is a risk but this appointment also has high reward imo
