IIRC he wanted Johnson and sanctioned bringing Werner in not once but twice. He’s said himself he has a say in all transfers so it’s not a case of a DoF signing them and telling Ange to get on with it. Reputable journos even mentioned he opted against going for a new senior midfielder as Gray and Bergvall impressed him. The same Gray and Bergvall that have barely kicked a ball in the League so far. Edit: he’s also made a point of only wanting players that want to join Spurs. It’s admirable but also likely lowers the pool of players Spurs could sign.
I still think it would be stupid then too, unless we're out of 2/3 cups and look well off it in the league. I agree with pretty much everything else, and it wouldn't shock me if Levy does sack him, as you say but if you have enough faith to spend on the manager I think you have to give them more time. Personally I thought Ange was a risk and find it weird that we seemed so invested in him, especially after Poch didn't get that kind of backing, but we can't keep starting from scratch with a new manager every 18 months.
Usual overreaction on here. Palace would have beaten most teams today playing with that level of determination. It's football, like all sport a lot of it is in the mind and Palace had much more at stake than we did. With more experience we will be able to use more of our quality to overcome such teams but that sort of mindset is difficult to beat.
It’s hard to say for me. If the feeling of “he can’t take us forward” creeps in then I see no reason why we should persist. Part of our issue over the years has been hiring not only the wrong managers but completely contrasting types. If we took a leaf out of Brighton’s book the managerial changes don’t always need to be negative decisions if the manager aligns with the club’s philosophy. Currently I’m in the stance of “needs a bit more time” but I’ve largely been overall quite unimpressed by his management. Must admit I was very much on board with going for him when we were first linked, after having read about his style and philosophy plus his record in lesser leagues I was hoping we’d stumbled on a potential jackpot. I still hope that can be the case but doubts are creeping in. A shame because as I keep saying I really like the guy. But I always try and stand by the principles of not allowing sentiment to cloud my judgement.
I know I sound like a broken record, but CM remains the problem area for me. I haven't had much faith in Bentancur or Bissouma for a while and it doesn't look as though Maddison is the answer either. We need a real presence in there imo, someone who plays with authority and can help us get control of a game and keep it. I don't see that profile from any of the current crop, although in fairness nor have I seen it in anyone since Dembele left.
This is the issue. You've accidentally summed it up in a sentence. Palace had more at stake according to pundits and statistics. We cannot let that affect us in reality. That is the difference between champions and a mentally weak team. The latter buys in to the media narrative. The former treats every single game as win-at-all-costs, and so they usually do. Our players needed to believe that we had more at stake than Palace did. They didn't buy into it. Weak mentality.
So it was better to be in ignorance for a couple of hours by the sounds of it. I'll allow myself a good read back once in in the bar.... Of course you could be a Utd fan tonight.....
Just a word of advice: Have a few sangrias and a nice a tapas before reading or watching any highlights.
You have to accept that in the PL the players of those clubs for which relegation or is not a real possibility, do not have personal costs for bad performances (they pick up their wages win/lose/draw) . If their wages were a scaling "commission" basis I suspect you would see league-wide improvements in the performances.
No, you write as though it just depends on Spurs. Palace have a say and they spoke louder. Two teams are involved and there will always be a difference in motivation between them. That's why we have a manager. You practice to lessen the effect of form and mindset. We are a young team and that will show on days like this.
With 9 losses in our last 16 league games, the opposition teams seem to be speaking louder than us a bit too much.
Ahh a very good tip. I have just waded through a very long rant from my son at home so it would seem sensible advice...
It was a rough one, mate. One of those with not a single bright spark. In fact, double the amount of sangrias I suggested.
Same applies we all need patience. Keep changing managers and Spurs will get no where. Management requires intelligence and time. Too many fans think there is a magic manager. They all need time however much magic they have.
Just seen the goal whilst in a cab on the journey back to the hotel. Shambolic defending again but the look of it....
Only the bottom four have lost more games than Spurs this season. It’s so tight from 8th to 14th a bad run of results and Spurs could be firmly stuck in the bottom half. If that happens then we all know what comes next.
People will have patience if they feel the team is moving forward but will naturally suffer blips. As of right now, considering how bad the calendar year of 2024 has been for Spurs, it’s tough to say if we’re moving forwards and if these blips are actually more a resemblance of our direction.
We are inconsistent in the league ... DWLLWWLWL shows this. However to include last season misses a major point. We have a younger team with players such as Moore 17, Bergvall 18 and Gray 18 in the squad (which has been massively needed). Udogie is 21, VDV is 23, Dragusin is 22, Sarr 22, Johnson 23 and Odoburt 19. Only Johnson has 2 full seasons of Premier league experience. Even our manager has less than 50 prem games experience. Arteta won the cup with Emre's team but his league for was wildly in consistent until 2 seasons ago. In 2020-21 we had a terrible season...and they somehow finished behind us. In 2021-22 they contrived to blow a near guaranteed 4th place to us. Loads if not a majority of goons were complaining and wanted him gone. Ange has had clear out most of the squad he inherited and lost his only world class player. He's had to replace the keeper, half the defence and most of the midfield. All in just 3 windows. Personally speaking I see progress in the make up and potential of the team
