I have to say I thought the same at the time. Had no idea why they were signing him and was even more surprised to see Saints fans suggesting we should've got a deal for him done when we were clearly playing the long game for a Ramsdale type move.
I am intrigued by what they do. Because I think it'll help to give an insight into where they are this season. They haven't suffered any hammerings this season - only once have they lost by more than a single goal - but they have had some very underwhelming results. The difficulty level of their fixtures so far has roughly been on par with us. With the Palace of old, I'd be inclined to agree with your feeling. But I can't yet work out where Palace are this season. With the other three teams, I have a very clear opinion - ourselves and Ipswich are rightly in the bottom four and will likely be finishing 19th and 20th, whereas Wolves are in a totally false position - but with Palace, I'm just not sure. I like Sarr, but him replacing Olise is a bit like when we replaced Mane with Redmond. That's got to be a big loss for Palace.
Can’t believe that’s given & ours last week wasn’t. And to top it, I’ve just seen the WHU pen shout. Both marginal imo but ours, jeez nailed on & not given. Still, we got an apology
Anything less than wins against both Everton and Wolves and we are done already, the next 5 after that are very rough. If we lose both of those there is a good chance we will only have 1 point from 16 games.
Yeah I made this point last week about the five games that follow these two. Rough as anything. Problem for us is I think Dyche is perfectly set up to counter us by packing the midfield and hitting us quickly on the break.
I hate the thought of any match (for any team) being "must win" this early in the season. But in this case, yeah, it's just so difficult to see how we could survive without winning these next two. And even then, 7 points from 11 games would be a poor return. I'm struggling to see beyond a fight with Ipswich for 20th.
And to be honest, even after those 5, Fulham/Palace away and West Ham at home doesn't exactly scream lots of points.
Palace beating Spurs and West Ham beating United - they are the sort of results I just can't see us winning this season. It really feels like we are way off this level
Yep, looks done. Five points isn't much.....but when you only have 1 from 27, it everest with no climbing gear
So it looks like all I’ve got to enjoy this season is Man Utd still being ****. On the positive side of today’s results, might mean we have less competition in the incoming PL manager department. Though I wonder if Man Utd would go for Potter if they sack Ten Hag.
It's an interesting quirk that the next round of fixtures includes Ipswich v Leicester, Saints v Everton, and Wolves v Palace. If that ends up being a trio of away wins, this season's relegation "battle" could be even worse than last season's. (And that was awful - not even the points deductions adding any element of jeopardy.)
