Why would he come on for delap
He was just a back up wasn’t he?
    Everyone knows that
So no other proper centre forwards was my point
So delap was clearly first choice and not the **** you just wrote to justify your bollcks

What are you on about? Who was back up?

I said when Delap was signed people thought he would be back up given the perception of him. You know, way back 2 months before the end of the window when we thought we'd be signing other players. This is my point about you not knowing what I'm actually saying because you're either deliberately misrepresenting it or you've completely misunderstood the point.

All this talking in circles about last season's squad is just a smokescreen to hide the fact we're a quarter of the way through the season and we don't seem any closer to Walter's exciting, attacking football. Claiming the players just need time to bed in is a weak excuse. If a 20 year old kid striker can hit the ground running better last season than a 28 year old striker with CL experience then there's issues with something, and it's not just a few extra pre-season sessions.

Noticed that both Palmer and Burstow showed more effort and urgency when they came on yesterday , maybe being benched is having an effect There was done good moves on our left , late game - final ball needed .

They are two totally different players playing with a different skill set unfortunately we’ve got possibly the weaker one , or how we’re using him maybe the fault . Delap is pretty unique he is a strong hard running and direct athlete but an early shooter , Bedia isn’t , maybe we couldn’t find another Delap . The team is gelling players are findig each other but our choices are the problem - we are slow from the back then slow at the front as the oppos sit deep .
Also signing any player is a gamble some are great some fail and some are ordinary that’s football .
I’d swap a big of our technical skill for a bit more height and muscle then I think we’d not left soft goals in.

Bit harsh to be calling Bedia a failure after only 10 games! Thought we had to wait a full season to make that sort of assessment.

The players we signed last season with proper experience in English football were:

Allsop – Cardiff were glad to see him go.
Carvalho – Stand out for Fulham, but his loan at RB Leipzig wasn’t going well and he wasn’t getting game time.
Connolly – Already had a reputation and lots of baggage.
Delap – Poor loans at Stoke and Preston.
Giles – This was seen as a coup at the time.
Lokilo – Spent time at Doncaster Rovers and did well.
Morton – Spent time at Blackburn, but fan opinion was mixed.
Philogene – Came off the back of inconsistent loans at Stoke and Cardiff.
Sharp – Way past his prime.
    Twine – Been around.
    Vinagre – Been around.
Zaroury – Spent time at Burnley and did well.

If we’d made those signings, and we were in the in the PL at the time, most of them would have been considered poor and not at all PL quality. You’d look at Carvalho and Zaroury and say they were the best of the bunch on paper.

It’s not exactly the riches of experienced Premier League quality like some on here say.

Personally i think philo is quite far from being genuine prem quality
He needs another season in the champ

He has incredible flashes of skill
But lets not forget the many times the game passed him by last season

You'd say a 7th placed finish with that recruitment is pretty good going but it doesn't suit the narrative that we underperformed.

The biggest issue this year is that the current gaffer is a downgrade on the previous one and it's pretty tough to argue otherwise. We needed someone to move us forward and that just hasn't happened. It just feels like wasted time now

We just don't know if he's a downgrade or not, because this squad is certainly a downgrade on last season's however you argue it. I'd say it's more akin to the 22/23 squad which finished exactly where we are now under the previous manager

I don't have the facts to hand - but does anyone know if we spent more this summer or last summer?

Obviously money doesn't buy success but it'd be interesting nevertheless

It's swings and roundabouts. Last season, we had no depth whatsoever and an unbalanced squad (LB and wingers were the issues). But the defence and keeper are better. I really like the options and quality we have in midfield, and we have decent wingers. I just don't think the gaffer is getting anywhere near enough out of them. Put a decent manager at the helm and I think we can judge more fairly. I think we've currently got a top 8/10 squad

We spent roughly £20m this summer, compared to about £5m last summer.

Walter has had 12 league games to work with a squad that was completely gutted after last season. 8 games with the vast majority of the players we now have. Less when you throw in Pedro and Alzate.

So you get rid and how long do you give the next incumbent? I'd say as they would be benefiting from the time the players have had to bed in, 5-6 games seems about fair right? How many points would they need to get to not get rid?

Give the man a fair go of it before you pass judgement. It's a coaching teams livelihood we're talking about here.

There's not a lot of clubs who'd pay £18m on a player they didn't feel were Premier League ready!

To be honest I don't care about LR, but not sure this is true, we can relegate for sure, we are just away a couple of bad losses against same tier teams. 2-3 losses, we are in red zone.

Problem is: football is all about creating chances and scoring. No one cares about build up, playing out from back etc. Score matters.
