Something shocked me in the Pompey game. They have recalled a young lad, due to injuries I assume, from step 9. Step 9 to championship is like a lada to a lamborghini. No offence to step 9 at all, but wow, it shows where they are in terms of their squad. I was shown the door as a coach last season from any proper level, which at the time was academy u18s at the best. I am on old twat really and time to let the younguns do their thing. To be fair they are much better than me and my time has gone. However, I am helping out a step 7 side who have new coaches in. A bit of an old fart to help them with session planning and the like. They have some talented lads in that group but none I would put forward for anything above national league level. The gaps are enormous. Feel for Pompey (tiny bit) if they are at this sort of scratching around level to fill a bench. Feel even more for the player tbh. Sounds like he has missed out on FA Cup round 1. I hope he gets a chance at that again. I had the pleasure of playing FA Cup prelim, and one 1st round game as a very late sub. Bloody brilliant it was.
I was just contemplating this, especially the Portsmouth style. Reminds me of a 90s championship side (possibly us back then...before Reid).
