Yes in Scotland, apparently they did it to counter the alcoholism problem they have but it's done nothing to alleviate it. Raise the prices in the shops and the booze cruise brigade come out in force, meaning less revenue for the government.
Got a lot of respect for Ian Hislop. The fact that he's managed to have a sustained career by both exposing Politicians misdemeanours and keeping the 'establishment' onside as well as running one of the longest running satirical publications in the UK, is testament to the mans' abilities and insight. The fact that he delivers it all with an inane and dry sense of humour is a ****ing brilliant trait in the best tradition of British satire.
He's also very cleverly, never pinned his political colours to the mast. People have accused him of being left wing, a euro sceptic, a royalist, a Tory, Oxford establishment man and just about everything in between. But I think he very smartly just exposes politicians, businessmen and public figures for what they do, rather than what they stand for.
I have no idea what his politics are, but I think he embodies the very best of British virtues - integrity, decency, fair play, all that old fashioned stuff hardly anyone gives a **** about anymore, but should

Election interference is fine if you’ve got enough $$$$ I’ve seen people posting stuff about Arabs and Muslims in the States voting for Trump on the basis that he’ll ’end the wars’. And I was reading an article from an American Palestinian woman who said she will vote Trump, because she’s angry with the Biden administration for arming and funding Israel. She either hasn’t thought this through and / or is in for a nasty shock when she realises that Trump will ‘end wars’ by giving Israel and Putin exactly what they want, at the expense of Ukraine and Palestine It’s like the teacher saying ‘I’ll end playground bullying’ by telling the bully that he’s allowed to steal everybody’s lunch money and if his victims complain, tough **** coz nothing with be done.
