I was born in Bill Quay south banks of the Tyne a Borough of Gateshead and never thought of myself as a Geordie. Worked in Newcastle mid sixties but dad was from a Durham pit village and the whole family followed him to Roker, I had five brothers then, now there’s only two of us left and we’ll be there tomorrow….it’s been ages since we did and I’m really excited even at my age.
I’m actually revisiting all my old haunts that’s why we’re over for the weekend….can’t beat a bit of nostalgia.
I guess it comes down to the community at the time. If you walk from the Wheatsheaf in Boldon up past the golf course you will be in downhill and redhouse in about 10 to 20 minutes but in Boldon I think most people would class themselves as Geordies or Sandancers but not Makems. That said there is probably more Suderland fans there than Newcastle but it would be close in a poll. I think my point being I support Sunderland wether my heritage or upbringing determine my moniker or not, that fact of support will never change.
Bottom line, who you support doesn't make U more or less Geordie or Mackem. Else neither would exist before the late 19th century
Bruce Springsteen coming back to the UK because of Sunderland - he lost his voice and had to cancel 3 shows, so he's added 10 more for his next tour
I know man I feel sorry for myself having to share a football stadium with you inbred 6 fingered bastards every time I go to watch my team play.
I identify as a hillbilly after watching Dennis on auf weidersein pet calling people from Consett that and my sandancer mate cracking up at it.
I put my name down but have had no response yet which is perfectly fine and I hold no grudge ... ... but I know where these bastards are and I've Googled 'how to make a bomb'!!!
