This is all very naive. Why do we have to support our minority communities is one of the weirdest statements I have heard. I also said we need to support white British children - are you against that, too? Deportation is incredibly expensive and complex. If anyone has a British passport they are not getting deported- and the black community we are discussing are pretty much all British. Maybe we should deport them all from our sporting teams too? Chris Kaba was on the streets because he had committed a crime days earlier, not because he had been released under weak sentencing. The group he planned a murder with is only just going to jail now. It is almost like you are just throwing out soundbites that don’t relate to this case. And the prisons are overcrowded. If you want hard criminals in jail, you are going to either accept a higher tax rate or release some low level criminals. This is what happens when you underinvest in public services!
Alternatives to the lock em up and hang em high approach. Recommendations given to a parliamentary committee by Liberty (The National Council for Civil Liberties). There's a lot of reading and plenty of links to sources. The current system is failing and will continue to fail without reform There's other regimes with alternatives, the UK can cherry pick those that best suit. https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/75450/html/ Recommendation 1: Focus on rehabilitation The two-year reconviction rate in the UK is around 53% – significantly higher than that of many other European countries. Countries which consistently achieve the lowest recidivism rates and have the best offender reintegration record are those which focus on rehabilitation. Norway, for example, emphasises open over closed prisons, and even in high-security branches of the prison system each prisoner has a ‘contact officer’ dedicated to ensuring both security within the prison and reintegration on release.[1]Norway’s two-year reconviction rate is more than half that of the UK, at 20%.[2] The average reoffending rate for all Scandinavian countries is around 27%.Similar measures are reported in German and Dutch prisons, with prison officers trained to provide support and rehabilitation rather than just maintain order.[3] More open regimes are promoted, with greater provision of home leave to speed reintegration.[4] Whilst comparison of national recidivism rates poses difficulties, some conclusions can be drawn. At the very least, there is no perceptible connection between more punitive prison regimes and lower reoffending rates. In fact, the data suggests the opposite. For example, the USA’s reoffending rate appears to be between 40 and 70% of prisoners released. That of Norway is only 20-30%.[5]In fact, a US Government report found in 2007 that harsher prison regimes have the opposite effects to those intended – they actually increase reoffending.[6] Norway’s prison system is famous for not only its more open and humane character but also its world-beating rates of reintegration and recidivism. Even its highest-security prisons offer “education, training and skill-building programmes”, with inmates reported to live in “small "pod" communities within the prison, limiting the spread of the corrosive criminal prison subculture that dominates traditionally designed prisons”.[7] At its maximum-security Halden prison, the treatment of prisoners is said to be “wholly focused on helping to prepare them for a life after they get out.”[8] Bastoy Island, in which serious offenders form a semi-open community in which education and employment is pursued, has reportedly the lowest reoffending rate across all Europe – a mere 16%.[9] Recommendation 2: Significantly reduce the UK’s unprecedented prison population Recommendation 3: Uphold equal treatment to reduce reoffending Recommendation 4: Make prisons safe for rehabilitation and reform Recommendation 5: Restore legal aid for prisoners Recommendation 6: Finish the reform of indeterminate sentences under the ‘imprisonment for public protection’ regime Recommendation 7: End immigration detention in prisons Recommendation 8: Stop relying on private firms to run prisons Recommendation 9: Safeguard the mental health of those in prison and leaving it Recommendation 10: Implement the recommendations of the Joint Select Committee into the Draft Voting Eligibility (Prisoners) Bill
Sky news giving a platform to Wretch32 to talk about how evil the police are. They want to cause more division. Why do they always pick rappers to represent the “black community”. Why don’t they ever choose successful business men?
They look different to my recommendations. Recommendation 1: bring back the death penalty for extreme violent and sexual offenders Recommendation 2: Leave EHCR so we can deport all foreign born criminals at our digression Recommendation 3: Extremely severe sentences for violent / sexual assaults. Recommendation 4: If the prisons are full, instead of releasing them, make them share a bed. Recommendation 5: Cut off the hand of anyone that fly tips Recommendation 6: Shoplifting is punishable by being forced to live in Portsmouth for the rest of your life
Recommendation 7: Erect a guillotine in front of the Bank of England, dress Kwasi Kwarteng and Liz Truss up as Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, and decapitate them along with Nigel Farage, Elon Musk, Aaron Banks, David Cameron, and all the bankers, spivs and chancers who have been wrecking the economy for 16 years.
What penalties would you recommend for those that disagree with your populist rhetoric and dogma? Extra maths, English comprehension, ECT or for the worst offenders two weeks holiday in a Southsea B&B.
“The idea was that into the first Ship, the ‘A Ship,’ would go all the brilliant leaders, the scientists, the great artists, you know, all the achievers. And then into the third, or ‘C Ship,’ would go all the people who did the actual work, who made things and did things; and then into ‘B’ Ship–that’s us–would go everyone else, the middlemen, you see.” Which ship ended up colonising Earth again?
Sorry, I did unblock you a couple of days ago, but I now know why I blocked your posts. The constant underlying tone from you is unless you are a white British male (full of testosterone) you are evil. let me re-write the sentence you wrote in bold below "We should be extremely hostile to anyone that breaks the law with brown skin" You can dress it up all you want, but I have not yet seen one post that doesn't demonstrate that you are an outright racist thug. You try to make it sound like you are being reasonable, but the bottom line is that anyone who isn't white or isn't white and born here isn't British to you. What about my grandkids, born to an english mother (before you get all racist on me, she is my Step Daughter so no she has no Italian or Indian blood in her - her dad was rather like you actually a testosterone filled thug with a shaved head and her mother is blond and brown eyed). They have a US passport and UK passport, but were born in Atlanta. Are they British? Does it fit your agenda because they are white? I know it will fit your agenda if I tell you that their father is American, but of Cuban decent. So I suppose they will never be British in your eyes. Criminals need to be locked up wherever they are from. Just like your heroes that were after the race riots. No point answering this post as I will block you again - I don't really want your type of post on my feed on a football forum.
You’re such a clown How has Elon musk “wrecked the economy”? Guy has paid the most taxes in human history whilst simultaneously creating multiple billion dollar companies. How many employees does he pay? How much tax do they generate?
Literally all of that is in your head. I will not apologise for being proud to be English. That doesn’t make me racist in anyway. I never once mentioned skin colour. I want all criminals to be treated exactly the same.
Is Elon Musk a bad boss? Ask Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter workers - Los Angeles Times You specifically said the opposite to this. You said we should treat people who "are not born here" differently. No7 quoted it, bolded it, replied to it. Yet you still can't see you said it. You do not want all criminals to be treated the same. You want anyone who was born in another country - including I guess all those white people born in the commonwealth who have returned with their families - to be kicked out if they commit a crime. You said that. No7 quoted it. Literally all of it is IN THE WORDS YOU WROTE.
Another terrorism event involving knives and an immigrant! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjdl5y3y3mvo
Absolutely loads to look at in that but I'd be interested to know whether the Scandinavian approach imprisons people quicker than we do in this country, for low level offending an individual has to work really hard to be sent to prison. It's not uncommon to see people with dozens of convictions escape a sentence. Maybe the recidivism rates are so high in this country because their offending behaviour is so entrenched by the time they're finally locked up? I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before but when I'm emperor of the world I'd sort out the CJS as follows; Differentiate between Jail and prison, for anything above 5 offences you're sent to jail. Jail has drug workers, psychologists, educators. Instead of getting a sentence of X amount of months you get sentenced to passing maths and English GCSEs, or a GNVQ. Your release date completely depends on your own effort. For those who decide they'll do what they want, when they want and continue to blight society there's prison. Do not pass go, do not collect £200. Prison will be ****. Really really ****. Banged up 23hrs a day, no work, no education, no niceties. You serve every day of your sentence not a minute less. I appreciate that this board is very left leaning and progressive but what I don't think people realise is that crime isn't always linked to external factors. There's some people who are just scum. No amount of counselling, support, UBI would ever stop them. We could literally give everyone in the country a million quid and there's a decent proportion who would still take from others, just because they could. I appreciate that's not a trendy view, but it's the truth.
