Why is it that when it comes to O Neill and Sunderland most fold outside the North East are quick to criticise. 'This man bought Curtis Davis and Marlon Harewood for more than Spurs paid for Modric'. That comment was seen on sky sports. Now lets get one thing straight, IT ISN'T O'NEILL WHO DISCUSSES THE FINANCES OF THE PLAYER TRANSACTION, ITS THE BOARD!!! When will people understand this, O Neill doesn't walk over to say for example M'Boro and say I will give you 30 million for Downing. How could he when it isn't even his money?? The people who do the deals are the board, they are the ones who go and discuss with the other club about the money situation. All the manager does is says which player he feels he needs, which he would like and which he would consider luxury etc.. The ones he feels he needs will be the ones where he will say to the board try your best to get them, but he can't tell them get him whatever the price because the board are the ones who negotiate the deals.. They deal with the money side of things... I have full trust in our board when it comes to negotiating player deals and controlling the finances. I'm not sure what Villas board is like...
While it is the board who has the money, it is the manager who makes the arguement in buying the players. For example if we wanted someone like Rooney, and it cost 40 million our manager would argue it is a great investment blah blah blah.. All in all it is the manager who chooses whether the player is worth x amount of money.
they paid £16.5 million for Modric Harewood was 5 million and Davies was 9 million 14 million altogether. someone cant add up
