Good Morning. It's Tuesday 22nd October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Guilavogui set to sign Former French International Joshua Guilavogui is set to pen a short-term contract with the Whites until the end of the season after impressing Daniel Farke during a recent trial at Thorp Arch. The versatile defensive midfielder played 300 first team games for the likes of Saint-Etienne and Wolfsburg, before being let go by Mainz during the Summer. Although turning 34 last month, Guilavogui has plenty in the tank to mount at-least one last hurrah before hanging up his boots. He was pictured with a Leeds fan on Friday night at the Queens Hotel, where he is staying. As a free agent, he can sign outside of the allocated transfer windows.. The one-time England star has spent more time in the physio's room than he has with his family over the past few years. Even when fit, his work rate has plummeted to alarming levels, which in turn has seen his ratings drop, and game time dwindle. Even so, Farke was quick to praise his professionalism and offer the shot in the arm he needs at a time where reports indicate his desire to leave next Summer, due to lack of game time. Last season at-least, Leeds recorded an average of 2.4 points per game over the 15 starts Bamford made, apposed to 1.74 ppg during the 31 matches he missed! According to Farke:- “Patrick has been struggling in the last months with injuries and this is what we have to rebuild. But no-one has to be concerned about his mental position, he is an unbelievably smart guy, an experienced guy. “From the first day I walked in, I haven’t hid my appreciation of him. He’s a top class player. I’m 100% sure with a fully fit Patrick Bamford, we would be in the Premier League because we missed him in the run-in. It’s no coincidence including point average when he started.” please log in to view this image
Morning all. Back to normal here. Must admit it'll be great to relax in comfort and watch tonights game
Bamford is never going to be fit as one injury leads to another. I suppose we will use him sparingly off the bench if ever avaliable. You never know he could pop one or two into the old onion bag.
We seem to be playing better with our two 'ballers' in midfield rather than our 2 DMs - not surprising i guess that we look better in posession with more attack minded players... but what happens when one of them gets crocked/suspended? And there will be games and times where we're trying to close games out where we'll need defensive options - and given we don't currently have options, signing some kind of stop gap DM makes sense. Whether Guilavogui is that guy? Fck knows. Mainz obviously didn't want him, which isn't a glowing endorsement, but we're not going to pick up Kante in these circumstances.
Morning all I don't believe Bamford would have made a difference on our promotion failure, I think Guilavogui is a waste of time, I kind of hope he is as it will mean no more injuries or suspensions equating to the need not to use him. It does cast a huge question mark over our youngsters not being ready
My thoughts entirely and one I raised on a previous thread. What is the point of Charlie Crew being on the bench at this point if he is never going to be used?
In other news wakefield afc had to cancel our fa vase game on sunday due to heavy rain making it unplayable. Tonights game in the west riding cup has also been called off due to the changing rooms being unavailable at club thorne (doncaster way). I am seriously climing the wall needing my live football fix. The vase game is now this saturday and i can't wait. No game on tv/laptop etc can beat attending a match.
Plenty available Must be putting a few off https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/engineering-works/morley-block-20241021/
I am not paying extortionate prices anymore just to see average players being paid millions a year. Bamford is banking probably 2 million a season for doing nothing. The price of food and drink is just ridiculous and don't forget the treasury take a huge chunk in taxes every game from everything.
My guess is Farke will blood the youngsters gradually if we can put games to bed a bit earlier. I am sure he would love to be 3 or 4 goals to the good and give Crew etc 20 minutes but, while games are tight, I am also sure he doesn't want to risk valuable points and fall too far behind like last season. A pragmatic approach of using someone with a few hundred top level games under their belt and some international experience to control games and garner points makes sense, even if it is not the dream scenario.
Money I am afraid, too much difference if you miss out on Promotion. Add in the fact that any manager is likely only a few bad results away from the heave ho and top it off with the internet and the meltdown if someone puts in a bad performance and I would say easing a youngster in and giving them 10 games to grow into it are long gone. I have a fear of starting to sound like Eire, if I do, please tell me and I will go and take some happy tablets!!
If they were any good they would be off to another club for bigger wages because that's the game these days.
Believe me I’ve tried happy pills and they don’t work. 35 pints over two days in Glasgow are the job though
Although I am fairly sure OLOF and Shaks will probably say 35 pints over two days is pretty amateur, you have my respect mate, Jan would probably ask where my Will is before I tried that these days
