Maybe so. As a goalkeeper how many options does Pandur have to pass the ball. I’d say about 3. Two of them are centre halves and one is a full back. From a goal kick there’s literally no one to pass to. Hughes is obviously better on the ball. He has about 4 options one been the goalkeeper. Thus the problem with the system. There’s literally no midfielders or wingers that can receive the ball from the keeper.
Rushworth mentioned that a big part of what he'd been brought in to do was to make long passes to the wingers in behind the defence as well as playing out from the back. I think this is a big part of the system Walter wants us to play, and it was also a huge part of Rosenior's system last season with Allsop who would put the forwards through on goal every so often. If your keeper can play those passes then the defence has two problems to deal with, if they all press high to stop us playing out then we're gonna play Belloumi or Millar in behind them.
Still don't get the seemly desire from some to bring in a GK who "might" be better to replace arguably out top performing player this season but some of those same people were saying you couldn't drop a poor performing keeper last season because the replacement only "might" be better. The GK position also isn't like outfield players who rotate etc and form players may or may not be dropped/rotated depending on opposition or game set up etc. It's a completely different position and set up etc. pandur is a quality GK as he has proved all season so far, he's commanding, has great positioning, has the trust of the players in front of him, a top shot stopper and he's also our player. He 100% should be staying as #1 until his form warrants that change and I mean over a few games, not just one incident.
100%. Why should our goalkeeper smash 60 yard screaming balls, our defenders have ample opportunity as they see the ball enough.
Its not a longing to see it Its just why rushworth was brought in Hes injured anyway so its a mute point
I've been really impressed by Pandur since the start of the season, having been one of the naysayers based on the preseason games. I was leaning towards the giving Rushworth a game scenario mainly because he is a proven quality goalkeeper at this level, we have him available to us, the financial penalty situation (which btw is an absurd thing which should have stopped his loan signing in it's track as soon as it was mentioned), and the opinion that he fits Walter's gameplan so well. It's a signing that's completely backfired, so I guess we'll now never know if Rushworth would have improved its. Pandur definitely is now our number one and the position is his to lose. One thing though. All this talk about Pandur not being able to launch attacks quickly. Why can't he? He can kick a football, can't he? He can practice to improve distance and accuracy. I don't get why it can't be part of his game? All he has to do is put his laces through it occasionally.
It's a question of quality. Anyone can boot it up the pitch but can he drop it just behind the defence for Belloumi to run onto like Allsop used to? Rushworth apparently can. Pandur doesn't ever seem to try it, which I can only guess is because he doesn't have that accuracy. It's been said that that's why Rosenior and Barry Richardson didn't rate him.
Its a bit like saying why cant anyone just dribble like messi Extreme example but Its an ability you either have or dont Its a very rare ability to ping an accurate long pass
You seem quite keen to get Pandur out of the team is there a reason for this, when he quite rightly being selected on merit.
It's just what I've said already. There are several signs now that Walter wants certain things from his keepers which is why he brought Rushworth in and I want him to have what he wants in order to be successful. I think our goalkeeping situation is peculiar in that Pandur has become the incumbent as a result of being here for pre-season while the others weren't, and now injury to Rushworth just when he was finally going to start. If he decides that Pandur is still the best available option then that's fine with me, but I think it's worth discussing that he might not.
Pandur has become the "incumbent" as you put it because he took his chance and proved to everyone he's a top quality GK who is totally and completely deserving of his starting place and position as our #1 There is absolutely zero need or reason to change that.
I obviously don't know the ins and outs of his loan deal ( has it even been confirmed that there's a financial penalty if he doesn't play? ) but any deals I've seen like that before all are based on games that the player is available for selection so once injured, they are classed as unavailable so the club can't be penalised for not playing them
