From the evidence I have seen, the premier leagues best managers are

    1) SAF
    2) Wenger
    3) Pardew
    4) Redknapp
    5) O'Neill

I only put Pardew ahead of Redknapp as saggy chops hasn't been short of a bob or two.
Sunderland appointing O'Neill worries me, he could really close the gap between our clubs

Name ONE manager who has had a year and a half out of football completely and then comes straight back in to achieve instant success?

    Don't worry, I'll wait.

No one can say for sure what sort of impact a spell out of management will do. Players are rusty when they return from lengthy spells out, so claiming that the same thing could happen to a manager isn't that unreasonable.

That's the point i'm trying to make - O'Neill hasn't managed his childhood team before and it could apply a new pressure to him. <ok>

If you say that, then you must think that Sunderland have a far superior squad to us?

Kenny Dalglish? Think he actually had 11 years out but seems to have picked it all up fairly quickly.

Its a pretty **** argument to slag O Neill off for taking 15 months out isnt it boys?

Does no one else think the likes of Venables couldn't jsut walk back into the game and be a good coach/manager?

The season is very long yes, but it's very long for both teams <ok>.

Nope I said close the gap. I still think we will be better than them, but with Bruce in charge we were streets ahead. I think O'Neill can close that gap, but not fully close it ( I appreciate my wording wasn't perfect there)

Chappaz never slagged him off though, he just suggested it might be an issue if he hadn't been hugely involved for the time he's been out, which it would be.

Jurys out on Kenny, Liverpool have spent a lot of money (most of it going to us and yourselves!) so should be well up there by the end of the season. Venables? No chance.

  15. Oh no!! Martin O'Neill...

Lets just accept the fact that Sunderland are the top NE club and are far superior to us, now they have the best manager in the world.

This bothers me and sums up what's wrong with North East football.
I'd rather we concentrated on being better than Man u/Man city/Chelsea/Liverpool/Spurs/Arsenal you know the top teams in the league for quite a few seasons now,not our poxy neighbours.
makes for a mentality of 'well the season was ****e but at least we beat them so a good season then' <doh> this is the trouble with both sets of supporters.
yes it's great to win and finish above them but it shouldn't be our aim for the season or theirs for that matter.

Dalglish has been heavily involved at Liverpool since 2009 as either a youth coach or mixing it with the board and managers so he knows what is going on in the football world and at the club before he accepted the managerial position 2 years later.

He's a good manager but he knows the nuances of Liverpool better than anybody there.

As for Venables coming back into management? I don't think he could just walk back in at club level full time. He likes the 'rescue' side of it; in and out in a few months.

    Who knows.

He may be a complete and utter failure, he may be a roaring success, he may just steady the ship and keep us midtable, nothing exciting, but nothing drastic either.

Only time will tell, but he has been in and around the game, as a TV pundit for I think ITV CL matches, so he hasnt been completely out of the game so to speak, but even if he was, I really cant see that making much of a difference, recharge his batteries, and come back firing on all cylinders.
