I actually thought the one today was only a yellow. He had another chelsea player right next to him so it was 2v1. Different to the Arsenal one as closest defender was 30 yards away
He wasn't right next to anything though. He was a good 5 yards behind them He is last man and the same distance out.
Reminded me of the one last year or two where Salah got pulled back in the corner by Silva v city I think it was and somehow ref didn’t give it. Although the best is always going to be the game v Chelsea when benayoun has the ball in the corner, chelsea player put his foot on his back and pushed through him and ref gave chelsea a free kick
He was within touching distance, Jota had to get the ball and the defender would have got to Jota to force him to do something. The arsenal one, no one was near at all and player was clean through on to the keeper
Don't think the ref was bent, just inept. Jones clearly our best player. Sobs was not very good today, gave the ball away a lot with sloppy passing. Nunez was fun to watch as usual and was very good at coming back to help out defensively. Salah had a quiet game by his standards. We were not at our best but did enough to win. As for Chelsea if they played football they would be a very dangerous team, but as they seem to concentrate on niggly fouls, diving, and trying to get the opposition players booked/sent off they are not a good as they should be.
I don't think he was near reaching out an arm and touching jota. You are right white is so far across he won't get there before some shot is fired off. The issue for me is if we got away from the very clear foul we didn't have the pace but we were in so any challenge is from behind.
Classic bottle job mentality, a good 3 times we tackled them in areas deemed too dangerous not to instantly blow up - coward
Thought Nunez particularly when he was newly on was really good and some of his early passes were excellent . Hope he keeps it up as i wouldn't be surprised to see that Jota isn't fit for the CL game
Thought Nunez did a lot more that, really occupied the defence, dragged them away from runners and played a couple of really lovely through balls for others.
I dont know what it is with szoboszlai. He's better than he is showing. Some of the passing or final balls are absolutely ****e. I just keep waiting for the complete performance that I think he has in him.
Not a fan of Curtis but fair do's he was motm today,Sob again went missing,Nunez head went Jota sick note and Trent needs to stop believing the hype .Going into games felt confident under Klopp but at the moment feel that we're getting away with it but the results don't lie so well done Arne.
It say a lot about the Chelsea midfield creativity when Palmer towards the end of the game was having to come back deep in his own half to get the ball to start off Chelsea attacks.
palmer is the new lampard. He joins the box and he can finish. He can find spaces. Itsa great talent to have but if you are man marked by a really disiciplined player you will vanish But he was anonymous in general play and i have yet to see any sort of KDB type performance out of him in general play. 4 goals in a game, great. absolutey fabulous. 22 goals and 11 assist is a terrble season? Great. (9 pens) This season he has 8 games in and 6 goals and 5 assists. 4 of those goals in one game v brighton, 3 assists wolves but he as where v CIty and LFC? its a very harsh assessment but he is thriving in space and has that knack of arriving to score. Chelsea are creating those chances and hes also assisting. at 22 what more could anyone really ask from young player?
i feel obliged to point out i told you he wasn't their only threat and the 2 i mentioned were madueke , who had Robbo twitching early on , and highlighting that Jackson would be a threat with our high line .
Yes you did. And I said our players up against each had to match their men. Robertson barely managed it. On the other hand slot had jones keep palmer is his pocket which was surprising, more in the sense that it worked than slot did assign someone to mark him up. As slot likes to say once it was a case of duels then it's about winning them amd Robertson just about managed it on his side after a couple of incidents and trent did alight on his side..sancho was a real threat there too. Palmer was anonymous living rent free in jones back picket and that's kudos to our boy. I really didn't think he'd be disciplined enough to do it.
Couldn’t disagree more. szobo was meh agreed. But Nunez was good, linked up nicely and kept defence occupied. TAA defended brilliantly again today, this season he’s been better defensively than going forward imo. Im going into these games much more confident defence will shut teams out and our attack will always be a threat in comparison to last year where we were just getting away with is via poor performances but doing just enough. These days we look a far more rounded team - albeit early days
