Exactly. It’s not like we’re playing Pochettino, Koeman or even Adkins style football. If we were playing battling football but losing I could take it. If the manager was pragmatic and changed approach there might be a way to make it work. But we’re doing exactly the same thing and not being entertaining at the same time. I know the circumstances are different but last season felt very different for me than the promotion season under Adkins. We almost pissed the league.
Thing that scares me about sacking Martin is that we’d probably go out and bring in Southgate or something. Can just imagine them selling us getting the second most successful England manager as a massive coup whereas in reality no other PL club would touch him with a barge pole.
Exactly, changing the manager is a good option for most clubs. Problem is, we have absolute bell ends at the helm
The football wouldn’t be dramatically worse to watch and we would be hard to beat. We would pick up a few draws and the odd smash and grab win.
I think the last few pages demonstrates one of the big problems with the situation; the alternatives are few and far between. Anyone we bring in is a huge risk at becoming the next NJ-very very few on here can name a viable alternative bur still expect SR to come up with a better than Russel Martin ready made alternative instantly.
Just because we couldn't name many viable alternatives on here it doesn't mean they don't exist. Pochettino and Ralph were unknown names in the UK when they were named Saints manager.
Yes. I as a football fan who watches less than 10 non Saints matches a season do expect people running a premier league football club to come up with a name I couldn't. It's literally their job to know these things.
Weren't we considering moving for December Zerbi before we decided to stick with Ralph one Summer? Bet nobody on here knew anything about Brighton's current manager. Just two reasons why it's a ridiculous argument to make.
To add to that people made the same argument when Hughes was here that there was no one better available. And then we appointed Ralph who clearly was better and who nobody had ever heard of.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious…. Well aware that there are and will be alternatives… but as I also stated; the risk is that that they are no better. If you look at the supposed top ten up and coming managers, very few of them are attainable due to contract status, compensation or the fact that we’re becoming a less attractive option weekly. More a general point that after pages and pages of having a pop at SR or RM, there aren’t many people being suggested.
I’ve not fact checked this because I cba, but have read that RM has got 243 games under his belt as manager and his teams have conceded…341 goals. For us it’s 64 games and…93 goals conceded.
With 1 point in 8 games it doesn’t really matter who we bring in, it can’t get much worse. 0 points in 8 games isn’t a significant drop off
