Sackable for who? Russ said that someone had been given that job and didn’t do it

The Ipswich one was not great from us, but outrageous bad luck that the deflection span the ball so perfectly into the top corner

Ridiculous Rose Tinted glasses maybe, but there is an argument that we might not have expected points from any of these earlier games, except v Ipswich & Leicester, where we led for large parts of the game

‘Worst’ other team we’ve played was arguably Bomo, who just smacked the Arse

We do it on basically every set piece so it must come from the manager. As mentioned we did it for other set pieces yesterday before the late one and have done it in other games too.

If we're not supposed to do it why is he never screaming at the players for someone to get out to the edge of the box?

It happens far too regularly for it to not be a tactic.

Flip side of that is that we've played our fellow promoted teams at home, the teams who finished 16th and 17th last season, and only one of the teams who finished in the top 6 last season.

If they’re supposed to be doing something and they’re not, then either the instruction isn’t clear or the players aren’t capable of doing it.

After repeating the same mistakes again and again it’s fairly obvious that the players can’t do what he’s asking. So he needs to change and get them to do something else.

    It’s a conundrum
Although screaming at that point may not be very effective, something needs to happen to just make it happen on the pitch every time

Yeah, I mean if someone is meant to be out there marking the players on the edge, and he's not there - both the manager and the captain/other players should surely be bellowing at them to be out there. That's not happening, so it whiffs of bullshit to me.

Yeah it happens far too often to not be a coaching decision imo. Especially as in other aspects the team seem to follow the managers instructions to the letter.

Interestingly I've read elsewhere that other clubs are also doing it so it's probably one of these modern coaching fads based on some nonsense expected goal/chance statistics.

Football is far more important than real life, but only when you're winning

It must be a stats thing. The popular tactic now is for the attacking team to put everyone obstructing the keeper and the corner taker to drop the ball right on top of the keeper, so stats will say the best place to position your defenders is in your own 6 yard box as this is likely where the ball will go.

You’ve also got stats like how many shots from outside the area go in, especially with 10+ players in the box when the guy is shooting and I’d imagine that number is incredibly low as well, even though it’s happened to us twice in 90+ mins to **** us over.

Not saying I agree with not putting anyone out there, i don’t see how having just one player patrolling the edge of the area would effect amount we concede but there must be some statistical logic to it

    Absolute shocker of a performance.

I once scored 2 own goals in one game on a Sat, I still get reminded about it years and years later. (They were harsh deflections, but still)

That was the sort of performance Fraser put in, sadly. But I still think it was Martin’s fault for bringing him on when we needed Taylor.

Some guy won almost £24k in a 6 match acca, as a result of that late goal.

Although Russ did literally say it was someone’s job to be out there
Nearest defender was 12 yards away when the ball came in. Mad!
