George Baldock has been found dead by the pool of his house in Greece. RIP. The Panathinaikos and former Sheffield United and MK Dons defender was 31.
He played against us twice, I believe. Once during lockdown when we beat Sheffield Utd 4-0 at home and once in the FA Cup when they beat us 1-0 with their only shot.
No idea if this is true, but it sounds stupid enough to be entirely accurate. I assume we're just going to get coaching badges for Whiteman and Austin and have them alternate roles.
It will increase the fines handed out by the authorities, can you imagine a player or manager letting loose mid game when a penalty goes against them , must need control after the game but mid game, no way
Young players are suffering more injuries, particularly to the knees: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ce3wqy9ygnvo I wonder if this is actually down to playing more often or if it could be something else or a combination of issues? Are the modern hybrid pitches a contributing factor? What about the ultra-flimsy boots? This is one of the reasons that I don't want to rush some of our younger talents though, particularly Mikey Moore.
Footballers used to look and perform a lot less like olympic sprinters crossed with middleweight boxers. I reckon the muscle weight, added to performing at full tilt for the majority of time the ball's in play, cannot be good for the jointsin the legs - especially the knees.
Packing on muscle is certainly an issue For an obvious Spurs example, look at Harry Winks: he was waiflike when he was first getting into the team, before apparently doubling his bodyweight within three years - and that's before mentioning some players who were tanks after hitting the gym like Eric Dier
Good news that an arrest has been made in relation to the assault on a woman fan on an overground train, after the Brentford game. Less good will be the enormous delay in getting the matter to court and the lack of prison space to house the **** who molested and assaulted her. A good mate used to follow Brentford, home and away, but has stopped since promotion to the PL, as there are "too many coked up twats now". It's pretty much the same all over, but once we accept their behaviour, we're all ****ed.
If anyone wonders why individuals like myself are struggling to find any love for the game that I used to adore...see today's David Conn cartoon in The Guardian. please log in to view this image
Referees' chief Howard Webb says there has been an 80% reduction in the number of video assistant referee (VAR) errors this season: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cgmgrljderro And what's the one "error" that they focus on? Fernandes' red card against us. It's an appalling, deliberate foul at near-knee height, FFS. This one against Utd was correct though, apparently:
The modern pitches are a big problem. They are more akin to athletics tracks than the mud baths of yore.
The differing values of human life... I give you Chris Hoy and Jeremy Clarkson! Devastating news of Stage 4 cancer for the former, just as his wife is diagnosed with an aggressive form of MS. And then there's Clarkson...
Chris Hoy's statement reveals a truly brave man, Clarkson makes him appear an even bigger twat...which is some feat!
What's Clarkson done wrong? Not a fan, but I just read that he had to have a heart procedure: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1l40gp6njro
