HA'WAY THE LADS MACKEMS ATTACKEM. Be fantastic to crack on after the break with another win. My lucky Black cat Sunny is up for it having been ill for a week so a good sign Cost me at the vets mind FFS. And in fookin fish trying to get him to eat
I dont think we were that poor at Plymouth either, we underestimated Plymouth and Rooney imo. I hope we have learned the lesson of not to underestimate or fear anyone in this exciting unpredictable tight league of ours. I would seriously think about replacing Roberts with Connolly in this one and play with a 4/4/2 line up , but my job is not on the line so I expect us to go same again and hopefully get the 3 points. OaU
Still top with a game in hand on four of the top six … … if Sheff Wed can beat Burnley we’ll still be top at kick off. What an incentive, come on!
ALS - ONES TO WATCH: HULL CITY Sunderland travel to the MKM Stadium for our first match post-international break. Here are five Hull City players to keep an eye on during the game. IVOR PANDUR (GK) 24-year-old Croatian goalkeeper Ivor Pandur is the current Hull number one. He was brought in for an undisclosed fee from Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard in January of this year but had to wait seven months for his debut and has since gone on to start every Championship game for the Tigers this season, keeping just the one clean sheet. Before life in Yorkshire, Pandur came through the academy of Rijeka in his home country and after being promoted to the senior squad won the Croatian Football Cup. After this, he moved to the Serie A to play for Hellas Verona where he was second choice for two seasons and due to his lack of game time would be sent out on loan to Fortuna Sittard prior to that deal being made permanent. The shot stopper has been twice named in the Dutch top flight Team of the Month, in October 2022 and August 2023 respectively. LEWIE COYLE (RB) Naturally playing as a right back, Lewie Coyle is capable of playing as a left back as well. Coyle was born in Kingston upon Hull but began his career with Leeds at the age of nine. He made his senior debut during a loan spell with Harrogate Town in 2014 and then his Leeds debut in 2016. In 2017, he joined Fleetwood Town for the first of three consecutive loan spells with the League One side. His first season there was a great personal success, being awarded both the Players’ Player of the Year and Junior Cod Army Player of the Year at the club. In January 2020, the deal was finally made permanent and he joined on a three year contract. However, the defender would only be there until August of the same year as Hull City signed him. Next years’ January featured him scoring a late extra-time winner against the Cod Army in the EFL Trophy and July 2022 saw him be appointed club captain. The Englishman won the League One title with Hull in 2021 and he was also awarded a spot in the PFA Team of the Year for the third tier in the same campaign for his efforts. ÓSCAR ZAMBRANO (CM) Zambrano is on loan from LD Quito, who play their football in the Ecuadorian Serie A, and has had a pretty successful career already at the age of just 20. He’s won a league title and a Campeón Supercopa in the South American country as well as a Copa Sudamericana (their equivalent of the Europa League). Additionally, he’s been capped at an U20 level for Ecuador and played for them at the 2023 U20 World Cup in Argentina. His best performance this season came at home to Cardiff City, where he assisted the opener and scored himself in a 4-1 victory. Notably, their win against Cardiff was their first home victory in 150 days... MOHAMED BELLOUMI (RW) Mohamed Belloumi is Hull City’s joint-top scorer so far this season, with two, alongside Kasey Palmer and Chris Bedia. Both of those goals occurred in the aforementioned 4-1 win versus Cardiff. Belloumi started out in domestic Algerian football, playing for top flight outfit MC Oran and then moving to the Liga Portugal 2 with Farense in 2022. He made one league appearance in the second tier as they were promoted to the top flight and had a breakthrough in the previous season, scoring seven and assisting five in 33 games. This form prompted Hull to sign him this summer. On the international stage, Belloumi has been capped once for the Algeria A’ national team, which is the Algerian national side exclusively for players plying their trade in domestic Algerian football. MASON BURSTOW (ST) Game time for the young striker has been sporadic since he signed for Hull permanently this August, so there are probably players more deserving of having a spot on this list than him, but owing to his Sunderland connections I’ve put him on here anyway. We all know how disastrously his loan spell was last season with us. He managed only one goal and one assist in 20 matches and the only real consolation was two caps for the England U20 national team, meaning that it was massively surprising that another Championship club chose to sign him at all, nevermind for a fee. The London-born forward first came to prominence during a loan with League One Charlton Athletic and he actually scored for them - not only on his professional debut but with his first professional touch of the ball. In total he scored six in 23 games for the Addicks, which was great for an 18-year-old. Chelsea handed him a debut in 2023 and then we brought him in, with our fans hearing some high praise from fans of the London giants. That was, as mentioned, a disappointing time for him and he’s not managed to find the back of the net in his five appearances at his new club so far. I'm sure he'll score a last-minute winner against us at the weekend, as is standard for ex-SAFC strikers.
Travelling to Wales tomorrow afternoon so hoping this is on the radio. Got a feeling Connelly will start and will score. So 1-2 to the lads, Connelly and Isidor
Thanks for another excellent thread, RTB. This game feels like a litmus test for our top table aspirations. Have we learned enough from our previous away setbacks? Our young side will certainly give it everything. Haway lads!
I doubt Regis underestimated Rooney but as fans we did. He seems far too smart to underestimate anyone...I also thought we lacked character at times and some players just made mistakes. Ballard and Pattetson spring to mind. It is no bad thing to get a wake up call, for players, and they bounced back well. I think they may show tomorrow a brrak isnt a problem.
Anyone with me and would start Connolly? Isidor has been ok, but not everything is optimum with him. Connolly is a player I watched at youth level. He has so much going for him. Do we throw him in or not? Regis seems a more balanced coach and that is a huge positive. He wont dump players quickly, which is right, so I think Connolly is going to have to come off the bench and grab his spot. I have a feeling he will do that and grab 15 goals this year for us. I think he is tailor made for our side.
I'm old school and if anyone is not already in the starting 11, he needs to come off the bench and make a difference
Not for me, he's not had a preseason n only played a couple u21 games 100% would use him at some point tomorrow tho n if he stays fit he will be 1st choice before too long
He starts on the bench, Isidor had to wait for his opportunity, Connolly looked very sharp for the U21s and I think he will score tomorrow - he is a goal machine
Definitely the bench for me ... ... however, if we need a goal, Connolly and Isidor for the last twenty minutes would be interesting.
I’m old fashioned. Isidor had to wait for an injury as Mayenda was playing well. Now Isidor hasn’t put a foot wrong for me and looked a good striker. So now Connolly has to wait and take his chance
Changed my mind, 2-0 to the lads Woke up at 2 this morning, knew we had won 2-0, couldnt remember who scored, took me 2 minutes to realise we dont play until today 2-0 to the lads Just remember, I recommended 7-0 to the lads after seeing 7 frogs one morning, dont gamble your house on it, we did beat QPR 3-0 however
Safe journey down those travelling weather is wet and very windy here, think the gusts of up to 40mph is going to cause problems on the pitch so ball on the floor will suit us. Nice 2-0 and back to the top of the charts today.
