I have thought for some time that will be a decider. Man City is a free one, albeit pretty expensive for GD for us probably, if Stoke come and walk away winners then still not sure if the trap door will open but lose against the Toffees, that’s curtains for RM and I really like the guy and pleased with last year but enough is enough. If not then the obvious plan is to fall back into the Championship again along with a record number of successive games lost in the PL. That’s not a record any of us want!!
He's nicer as a person, for sure. Demonstrably not a better manager though. It was NJ's abrasiveness which done for him, Martin had credit in the bank, which surely must be exhausted for 90% of the fan base now. I still genuinely don't understand how fans aren't turning this on Sports Republic yet, they've a worse PL record than Gao and Lowe and yet fans still think we've got good owners. It's mental.
Not sure really, would have to see how Jones would have handled us in the Championship for true comparison, which I know goes against my argument too. I see signs of some form of coaching and plan with RM, even if it’s not working. Jones just seemed to send them out with ‘kick the fackin ball’ as tactics and the players looked like complete strangers.
I wonder if it's because there isn't that one person to aim at. Different decisions being made by different people. For example: appointing Jones seemed to be Ankersen's decision; appointing Martin seemed to be Wilcox's decision; changing the stadium layout seemed to be Parsons' decision. It's more difficult to turn on an organisation like SR, than a person like Lowe.
That's a fair point. Lowe put himself front and centre. Sports Republic is some faceless entity so that probably massively de-personalises any hostility. Either way our club is totally ****ed until they're gone. Utter utter bell-ends
And still managed more points They should have pulled the plug on Martin directly after Wembley, would have been harsh but we all knew he wasn't capable of managing in the PL, I don't know how they didn't see it.
He’s got to go now but SR won’t do it yet. They’ll leave him in place until the next international break. Thought we were excellent 1st half, but once we conceded you can see the inevitable happening. Players can see what’s coming as well and unfortunately RM seems to have no clue on how to change this from week to week. We started not closing down, and conceding again from no man pushing out on the edge of the area is becoming school boyish play. Just feel that the players need a new voice.
Nah, Sekou just likes to turn it on against the big clubs. Looked a world beater against City for us as well.
No club would have done that tbf. Except maybe Sheffield Wednesday with Darren Moore last season, but that was because their owner is a nutcase.
I’d rate Martin above Jones certainly. Jones had six weeks prep time with a squad and made them look worse . Jones and Pellegrino are the only managers I’ve ever actively wanted out and hoped would be moved on , regardless of who the next man in would be. With Russell I don’t necessarily want him gone but have come to an acceptance it’s probably for the best , but do have some apprehension of what options might be out there available and willing It’s also quite possible SR don’t sack him simply because they’ve tried to find someone already with no success , so will stick until it becomes untenable to do so
I just don’t know why they would keep him. For next season in the championship? To try and get promotion again, only to fail abysmally in the PL? What’s the end game? There are managers out there who can get us promoted and still make a better go of the PL.
He’s a nice bloke. Maybe they’re hoping he learns from this season, we go down, come straight back up with a more experienced manager
It seems like he hasn’t learnt a thing in eight games and is resolute that he won’t be changing things. None of his ‘tweaks’ or ‘adjustments’ have addressed any of our problems. I agree he’s a nice bloke and a good man-manager.
