Ascot 13,55 Spycatcher 25/1 e/w Lads four places, 22/1 WH and bet365, 18/1 PP five places 3rd last year Form on soft: 281412331 Trainer last 14 days: 10-35 (29%)
1.20 Ascot. The Euphrates. 33/1 William Hill. I find it strange, almost crazy, that Kyprios’ odds are 8/13 off a rating of 120, whilst improving 3 year old stablemate The Euphrates is 33/1 of a rating of 114 plus an 8lbs allowance. A lot of use was made of The Euphrates under top weight but he held on to win the Irish Cesarewitch. Ryan Moore would obviously ride Kyprios irrespective of his views of O’Brien’s horses’ chances, but Soumillon is a very able deputy.
This may be a gamble. LEVER UP .. 2:05 Catterick. Made its debut in the most expensive maiden of the year the Convivial at York (52k) won by a £1 million AMO horse.. when I say it wasnt knocked about, it wasn't knocked about and was beaten 8L. Second run in a 22k maiden at York the winner has since finished second in a group 2... again not knocked about... Here today in a 4k maiden. Handled soft ground at York last time. Only negative is a draw of 13 but surely better than these. Managed to get 10 and 9 last night now down to 5... (Same race I do know Tootsie is well regarded)
That's the sort of logic I like. Now 4/1 Only slight doubt. Was actually beaten 12¾l on debut, having been slowly away, and on second run was beaten 9½l and dwelt at the start (winner won "easily") Could be that the tardy starts were intentional, or that the tendency has been sorted With those slight niggles, not for me at 4/1 but looks a shrewd bet at 10s
Looked at Metropolitan in the QEII for some value, then couldnt understand why Dancing Gemini was 4 times the price. Metropolitan beat DG half a length in the French Guineas. DG loves soft ground. Got to be a bet for me at 50/1.... Witch Hunter in the last (if drawn on the right side) is a huge price also. Group 2 winner in a handicap. Beaten 6l by Charyn in the Queen Anne admittedly on fast ground. 33/1...
Mexicali Rose ew in the lucky last at Ascot. Not disgraced recently in listed class against higher rated rivals and will be fine in the mud. 20/1
17:15 Ascot - Facteur Cheval e/w Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, a Group-1 event over the straight 1m on soft ground. This consistent Ribchester gelding has a decent chance, for France, to run a top race in this affair. Suited by distance and current going. Maxime Guyon rides for the Jérôme Reynier stable. 6/1 best price early-doors, in most places on the ATR site.
Never settled for the first mile and had nothing left at the end. Wouldn't have mattered though, Kyprios is a monster. He'll make some NH stallion I reckon.
I'd like to see Economics win the Champion Stakes - but does it deserve that name when the 3 highest rated are 125,123 and 120? Having said that the joint highest rated in the Arc were 120 (Al Riffa and Los Angeles) - are we going through a lean spell for flat middle distance horses?
Ran a fine race to finish second, but in the end had to admit defeat to a champion miler, Charyn, who just would not be beaten. First two home were far and away the best in the field. Good race.
Not sure what happened. It jumped the path after a furlong (Easterby getting it ready for a hurdling campaign as a two year old.. ha!) then it hung right around the bend and then as you say became unrideable hanging left. On RTV it said lost its action. Maybe something wrong with the tack even as they said it cantered past the point. I'd had it in a double with Carry the One also... DIDNT LAY IT OFF. Thankfully I backed Dancing Gemini 4 places at 50/1 and Witch Hunter eway 33/1 and saved on Carry the One... Could have been a very good day...
The best horses in Europe are either geldings, a 2 miler or City of Troy. And none of those are above 130, although COT could be if he wins the BC Classic Based on Timeform ratings
