Sorry, not long got home. The answer to that is a clear no.

Problem I faced was I didn't agree with the initial post, but I feel I need to be careful not to show bias.

So it remains but like you, I ask if we can move this whole middle east saga to the war thread please. If people feel a different outcome is required please say.

Also if we can keep any politics / war stuff out of the match day thread as well.

    Thanks guys.

Not when I got the buttons. <laugh>

I think donga probably hadn't realised we got different threads for different stuff, where on GC everthing gets stuck under politics. When I saw the initial picture post, I'm like here the fook we go, donga's going to think I'm picking on him lol.....so it's easier to leave it and let others correct the error of his ways. :bandit:

Yeah, okay. In fairness I posted that picture because there had been previous Gaza stuff on here, but next time I'll put it on the War thread (that I actually thought was about Ukraine, tbh).

As utterly abysmal as Labour have been (and I say that as someone who is going to get slaughtered over IHT reforms, as I'm just in the middle of dissolving a very stupid decision to put my house in a trust for my daughter), there's no denying that the Tories DID leave an utter poisoned chalice for Labour. A scorched earth worthy of the Russians in 1812.

Would have been interesting had the Tories actually won the election - they obviously knew all along they wouldn't. ****ing idiotic of Labour to rule out income tax, VAT, and NI increases in their manifesto - they'd have ****ing walked this election anyway.

Yeah bit daft of Labour to rule out NI and Tax increases, I would still have voted Labour, fooking pissed me off everytime the Tories cut them. The only thing I would ask of any government is please don't put any more tax on alcohol in pubs, the trade is dying fast, landlords all over the shop are calling it a day - hit supermarkets by all means, but leave the pubs alone.

Personally think NI shouldn't be raised as it only effects workers and business and gets you very little in return these days . The fairest way of raising tax revenue is thru Income Tax

    Don't disagree with that mate.

I was thinking as well actually about my pubs comment and not raising tax anymore on them, but fair enough do it with supermarkets. What I thought was they could probably hit places like Wetherspoons with a tax based on the size of the business premises, thus any such tax avoids hitting small boozers. For me the average pint of a beer is £4.50....but you go Wetherspoons you could get a pint for £2 in some places less. So with the volumn of beer Wetherspoons must sell, they could easily hit it with a 50p hike per pint and not really affect their customers much based on anywhere else they go. Don't get me wrong I'm more than happy getting my £2 pints, but the state of this country at the mo, we all got to be doing our little bit, and an increase to £2.50 is nowt, even make it £3 ( a quid increase) then lesser the tax at the little boozers to help them out. Just did a quick google Spoons sell 50 million pints of real ale a year.

i may be wrong with this but i think that recently when the duty on alcohol has been raised it has excluded the duty paid by breweries on draught beers . The tax on premises already exists as business rates though that needs some serious reform imo so great big warehouses pay far more and town centre businesses have theirs reduced to help them survive

I think Labour knew that the Tories would use it as a big stick to scare voters if they hadn't ruled it out. They still have a hangover from that Labour Tax bombshell campaign from a previous election. And of course, taxation is necessary for the country's coffers whichever way you raise it.

I actually think Labour are going the right way about their taxation policy, raising Corporation Tax, Inheritance tax, Capital gains tax and possibly making an exception for income tax on those earning over £100k say. There's other taxes like Fuel duty that would raise significant amounts, and whilst it would still hit everybody, it doesn't affect people directly from their wages in terms of NI and Income tax (obvs if you drive to work it does)

There is then of course the missing £bns from Tax avoidance.

I'll be keeping an eye on that, because Labour have made big claims that they are going to close the loopholes that the rich use to move their wealth around and avoid their fair share of tax

Ending the non dom status is a good start, but I want to see a much deeper delve into the tactics that the wealthy use to dodge tax

About 6 years ago I done some forklift work for a few weeks in Wandsworth recycling center.

When I went for my first day I looked around this corridor that's I was stood in full of people who looked like they had leukemia and the supervisor started talking in a language I guessed was some Eastern European speak, 15 mins he rattling on ...he never said a word of English to anyone as he barked out each workers tasks for the day (i guessed)

Anyways after that was over I walked up to him and said I don't speak whatever that was and I'm here to forklift so where do I go.

He kinda of apologised about the days brief being delivered in a foreign language and walked me down to where id be working to meet my colleague.

He spoke to him for 4mins in again in another language I cant speak and for the next 3 weeks me and this guy literally communicated via a translator app on our phones.

This was Wandsworth in Poland obviously so dunno what my problem was<whistle>

Yep, every tax has its pluses and minuses. I guess it's finding a balance between being able to raise enough money for the exchequer and not pissing off either businesses or the working man.
