I'm sure he'll leave after 18 months anyway, if he wins the world cup it's a huge high for any manager to bow out on, and if he doesn't he'll go to Bayern or Barcelona or somewhere like that, so it's win win for him. He's in his prime and recently won the CL with a massively unfancied team. Way out of England's league tbh.
Don't know tbh - think he's done the hard yards in club management at Mainz, top end stuff at Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern and now into his 50's so international management could be a nicer pace of life and spend time with your family etc. while still being on decent wedge. If you can keep an international job why wouldn't you? You don't have to be up and out the door at 6am and home by 8pm like club management. You have a busy June/July once a year but past that you have about 10 weeks work a year and get to travel around watching football the rest of the time....
Maybe when he's in his mid 60s, not right now. It's not like when Capello had that **** team, he actually has a decent chance with this team, got to the finals of the Euros and only narrowly lost to Spain while still playing ****, so obviously a lot of potential. He's ambitious, hence the short term contract, he ain't Southgate and won't be there long term. It's international experience but still not in any way him slackening off.
Get what you mean but I'd not call it slacking off - it's like any job, once you reach the more senior management in any business you end up spending more time on the golf course than in the office but getting paid more than the plebs running around doing all the hard graft. He still get's to manage but without the daily grind and weekly media scrutiny. Maybe more intense pressure but it's only for 4 weeks a year really and despite being pretty clueless Southgate managed to stretch it out 8 years!
He's like Ancelloti, Mourinho, Guardiola in that he won't have just ticked winning the CL off, he'll want to win it again. He has a chance at the biggest prize in football now but won't want to wait another 4 years to win it again even if he does win it. Good managers aren't like normal professionals, in that they thrive off pressure into their later years, Tuchel is still very young as a manager.
Think it's a great appointment personally. Better chance of winning anything now than we've ever have... Should have had him in for the Euros. Garuff to Manc Reds after they get humped by Brentford, and it's a fine week's work.
We have a ridiculously talented squad, there are a few problem positions like LB/GK for example but on the whole the squad is very good.
So for all of you "England should be managed by an Englishman" brigade, who (currently managing or not) would be top of your list that could take us that extra step to actually winning a trophy? There isn't exactly a massive pool of talent to pick from in terms of English managers. There are 4 currently plying their trade in the PL, outside of Howe, O'Neil or Potter I'm not sure who else would come in to consideration. I'm not sure why it makes a difference if I'm honest, we all support a team managed by an Englishman but it's littered with foreign players...most other clubs are managed by foreigners and have even more foreign players in their squads than we do. This was our starting 11 in the final against Spain, only Jordan Pickford is currently managed by an Englishman at club level, it's not like our players are used to being managed by an English manager....i really don't think it makes an ounce of difference. 18 months is an odd contract length, it literally takes him to the end of the next major tournament....assuming he lasts that long of course. I'm intrigued to see how it pans out.
The nationality of a person is irrelevant.... tbh this is why international football is dead.. people have begun to realise that flag waving is a mugs game.
I’m not one to look for fights, but the ****ing state of that paragraph Roland! Which 30 million people shouldn’t be here? And the disparity between rich and poor is actually CAUSED by our population number? Expand on that one for me will ya??
There's not many ways out with sports now.... rich kids get coaching, nutritionists, psychologists and more advantages from day one. Running maybe, boxing and darts! basically all the crap left over that less rich kids go for.
