You do wonder that Pakistan have yet again in the 3rd innings slumped, if Asian bookmakers are involved!

day five went more or less according to plan, despite pakistan's 7th wicket pair threatening to make england bat again.

an innings and 47 runs. only the second time england has won by an innings in asia. the last time it happened was in december 1976 against india. on that occasion, england made 381 (in 151.5 overs - more overs than the 823/7 just took!!!!) thanks to 179 from dennis amiss, with alan knott adding 75 and john lever 53. india responded with 122 and lever took 7 for 46 with chris old taking two and derek underwood one. india followed on but fell 25 short at 234 all out. sunil gavaskar's 71 was the only indian score above the 30s in either innings. underwood took 4 for 78, lever 3 for 24 (giving him match figures of 10 for 70). tony greig got two wickets and bob willis the other one. this was the first game of the series. england won the first three, india took the fourth, and the fifth was a draw.

    Closed on 36/2.

They'll either make a sensational run chase tomorrow or fail miserably.

I hope it's a close run thing but Pak win, to keep the series alive.

meanwhile, india were done for their lowest ever home total by new zealand - 46. two players reached double figures, ending with 13 and 20. the fourth wicket added 21. five wickets fell in the 30s. bowling figures were 5/15, 4/22, and 1/8. somehow the innings was dragged out to 31.2 overs, including 13 maidens.

new zealand ended the (first) day on 180/3.

five of india's top eight failed to score. turns out this has only happened once before in tests, way back in 1888 when australia did the same against england.

well, it looks like it'll be spin for pakistan for the rest of the series. they used only two bowlers in that final innings.

england scored 435 runs in the match. i remember the days when we'd occasionally score more in a single partnership.

Sajid Khan and Noman Ali took all 20 English wickets between them.

Only the 7th time 2 bowlers have shared all the wickets in the history of test cricket.

The last time was in 1972 - Dennis Lillee & Bob Massie against England at Lord's, when Massie had match figures of 16/137.

all 20 england wickets fell to two pakistan bowlers, one (noman ali) taking 11 and the other (sajid khan) 9. this has happened on only six previous occasions in tests, with three more since 1945 and three before 1914. the most recent occasion was in 1972 on bob massie's debut when he took 16 and lillee bagged the other four. in 1956 it happened twice, the latter for pakistan against australia (fazal mahmood 13, khan mohammad 7), and earlier for england against australia when jim laker took 19 and tony lock just the one. in 1910, south africa did it against england (bert vogler 12, aubrey faulkner 8). in 1909 england did same against australia (colin blythe 11, george hirst 9). the first instance was for australia against england in 1902 when monty noble took 13 and hugh trumble7.

Well, the right result for me, keeps the series alive. If Pak prepare a decent pitch next week we might get a good game.

The women's T20 semifinal, NZ v WI, is quite good. WI to bat, will need 129 to win. OK, the bowling and batting is less fiery than the men but it's still decent to watch.
