Applying VAT on something that didn't have it on there is raising VAT on that item, exemption or not, it is raising something from zero to 20%.

I do get the semantics, this is politics being discussed, no matter what side of the fence one sits, that politicians lie, bend the truth, etc, or whatever you call it.

But it simply is not correct saying they did not raise VAT, when on education, for children, it now has VAT. That is a rise from 0% to 20%.

Anyhow, I'm getting really bored with this, and I am sure others are too, and we all get the point, some don't believe my position, some do. Even if that is only me, that is still someone...

Seems a silly semantic hole to fight over. Two days ago you were celebrating the VAT victory of a few wealthy private schools.

Did VAT go up? Yes or No?

This is comical. The lengths you hypocrites will go to in order to protect labour. Hysterical <laugh>

The thing is, I honestly don’t care. They are the ones that started the insults. I am only responding in kind.

Also they are the genuine hypocrites. They say I am “brainwashed” or whatever constantly. But I am very happy to criticise the Tories or Trump.

Keir Starmer could stab a homeless person outside Westminster and they would probably defend him somehow. “Oh yes but he’s a human rights lawyer so the stabbing didn’t count”.

No it didn't go up it remains at the same level, exemptions were removed as previous posts explained. Not difficult to understand, may well be you're not as clever as you think you are or claim to be.

I was quite amused last week when posters on here were happily defending comments by ministers about P&O and it was then reported that Keir Starmer had publicly rebuked Louise Haigh.

It's quite telling that certain people on here are more willing to defend a Labour minister's statement than the Labour leader is.

The Trump campaign just posted their newest ad… and it’s a full interview with Kamala Harris

That’s hilarious. She is a horror show for the dems.

I’m amazed they’ve put her forward, she can barely string a sentence together or hold a coherent thought:

BRET: “More than 70% of Americans feel the country is going badly.”

KAMALA: “Donald Trump has been running for office”

B: “But you've been the person holding the office”

K: “You and I both know what I’m talking about”

B: “I actually don’t. What are you talking about?”

If you remove an exemption, the end result is people pay more VAT.

I hope this helps. If you like I would be happy to set up a video call to understand basic maths to you?

I’d be willing to fund some tutoring of basic maths for you too

As removing the tax break for private schools is explicitly stated in the Labour Manifesto, what are you still crying about?

Even Billy acknowledges this is a matter of semantics (google it). It is the absolute desperate end of attempts to have a go at the government. There are way better things to get angry about than the fact Labour said they would do something and then did it.

Semantics do go both ways, don't they?

Wasn't a desperate end. I have openly said on this very thread I sincerely hope Labour make a success of Government, as if they dont we all get ****ed in one way or another.

Loading, you appear to think I am anti Labour, when that simply isn't the case, as much as I wasnt pro Tories, I regularly stated they have been corrupt, embarrassing, greedy etc.

I also stated I think the whole political system needs reform, it is corrupt, and said it wont matter who is in charge.

I guess I could be accused of being anti Government, that is to say not tied to any political party.

The VAT thing I raised y'day was going back to a discussion on here recently about lies told by Labour in their manifesto.

Semantics is a good word for this - same as semantics in Labours own manifesto saying two things, they are using semantics around saying both things. It is semantic saying VAT hasn't gone up, an exemption was removed. The fact is VAT wasn't on something, it now has it, so it has gone from 0%, to 20%.

This isn't a political view against Labour, it is a fact that if something was 0% one day, and the next it is 20%, it has gone up. You may think it is personal to me as I have children in the private school system (they love it btw - can't get ahead of the rest of the plebs quickly enough :emoticon-0105-wink:), but I don't pay the VAT at my school. This may change, and if it does, I will pay it. Simple as that.

I was dealing in facts, you were dealing in emotions due to you hatred of the private school system.

It certainly wasn't an attempt of desperation and to have a go at the Government, it was following on from a recent discussion, and it jogged my memory, hence why I posted it here.

I always thought you were dumb as they come I now realise you need help, do you understand how ridiculous your post is? Of course private schools will pay VAT and the cost will be passed on to those paying fees none of my posts deny that as well you know. If you can't grasp the difference between removing an exemption and raising the rate of VAT you'd better find an adult to explain.

Jabbo - seriously, get to ****, in the politest possible way :emoticon-0148-yes:

We are all allowed to post on here, you included - which is great, makes for an inclusive Board, and gives the Board special ESG credentials by helping the 'less fortunate (in many ways)" on here.
