Being a Geordie was just the stick to beat him with, which only came out when results went down hill.

Tash this is on both Newcastle & Sunderland boards cause I thought it would be interesting to hear both sides of it. So no need for your pics more suited to the GC.

    Let's be honest.

He wasn't exactly nice to look at.

It had nothing to do with his Geordie roots.

He's an ugly chap who just happens to be a sub-par football manager.

I think the Geordies were more interested in him being a Geordie than most Sunderland fans to be honest and a few fans who were really pissed of chanted the worst insult they could think of.. and calling him a 'fat geordie bastard' was just easy. It wasn't the majority who gave him abuse because of where he was born and I don't think the majority hate him... I think most of us had come to the conclusion he was out of his depth.

Might have made a stonking manager in the 1950s when men were men and balls had laces and if you knew what tactics meant people called you 'professor'.

I heard they were singing chants at half time at Bolton about Bruce going. On top of this all the Sunderland fans I know wanted him out for a while. Though I think the timing of the sacking was correct.

Aye - just to be clear the personal insults calling him a 'Fat Geordie' were from the minority.

My mate at that match didn't seem to think so, though he was desperate to see Bruce leave.

It built up alot around the middle of March to be honest with alot of people wanting him out. The second season in a row where we didn't win for months really got alot of peoples back up.

My biggest concern is that we were having "The winter stretch" of not winning for ages in the summer and Autumn, god knows where we'd be come March!

I'm a geordie like alot of Sunderland fans on here will also be, I couldn't give a toss where Bruce was from to be honest, if Lee Clark didn't cock up at the cup final that time I'd be calling for him to be appointed now such is the job that he's done at Huddersfield, I think he'll be a top manager.

Put it this way: If Bruce guided Sunderland into the European spots, every mackem would be sucking his geordie dong.

I think that answers the question as to whether him being a 'geordie' had anything to do with it.

His mission was compromissed...........Now Agent Ashley has re-called him for some deep under cover penertration work in the sewers of the Sports Direct Arena.

Seems there is years of dirty work and utter ****e to sift through.

    Let me ask you.

If Ashley appointed a manager born and bred in Sunderland and openly decalring himslef a Sunderland fan, how far would he get before he was abused and booed? The training ground on his first day? He certainly wouldnt have been allowed anywhere near newcastle ever again if he had led you all to a 5-1 defeat against us.

Sunderland fans took to Bruce and took him to thier hearts. He was afforded all the time and support required to succeed and failed. He was sacked because of poor reults and nowt else but his geordie/b&w supporting background became a stick with which to beat him with once that failure was evident. I was as guilty as anyone about that but dont think any ill of myself for that stance at all.
