I have said this before but in places like Saudi the way women are treated is called culture. If I treated my wife like that I’d get arrested for controlling and coercive behaviour.

Wonder if they’re ok with a female queen having most power, and the involvement of Christian bishops.

Some pensioners may have to return hundreds of pounds worth of winter fuel benefits if their eligibility changes.

    That will teach them

Idiocy’s that happens. Mind I’ve seen pensioners (my in laws) complain about not getting the winter fuel payment, they’ve just gifted thousands of pounds to some family members and bought themselves a £20k car for cash! They don’t need the payment, but they want it so complain!!

for those that need it, great, but like everything else, it should be means tested

Just found out that she boycotted the games in Saudi in 2017. So she was right inasmuch that nobody did care. Sad really but expected.

    It's maybe a little bit early for this, but . . . .

I saw a man selling poppies stopping a lady to ask if he could re-position her poppy. Whilst doing so he told the lady that she should wear the poppy on her right side . . . . and that the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those whose loved ones didn't return home, and the green leaf represents the grass and crops growing & future prosperity after the war destroyed so much. The leaf should be positioned at 11 o'clock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that World War One formally ended. He was worried that younger generations wouldn't understand this, and his generation wouldn't be around for much longer to teach them . . . . we should remember those from our current wars, too." <peacedove>
I copied this from someone else . . . . we should pass this knowledge on to those who don't know the meaning <hug>

I was always taught that the poppy should be worn on the left side over the heart Gordon. Although the British Legion say there are no rules, only to wear it with pride.

Terrible crash in the M6 yesterday near the Tebay services claiming 5 lives, four from a family travelling home to Glasgow.
Apparently the other vehicle was travelling south on the northbound carriageway. Road was shut nearly 12 hours causing chaos in Kendal.
    Words fail me....

So sad mate, I can’t quite picture that junction to understand how the other person managed to come down the north carriageway.

Saddens me to see a lack of young people at remembrance at the cenotaph. You get a few bairns with parents , junior school , cub scouts etc represented , but zero teenagers , no one in twenties. Men gave their lives but now people won’t give half an hour once a year - suppose that’s life these days

Remembrance day at Washington Village is attended by all age groups and gets bigger and bigger each year, I remember attending with my mam when I was about 9 or 10 and there was maybe around 100 people or so there, these days there are easily over 1000 people attend. I always took the kids when they were little and they still come to this day. An hour every year is a very very small sacrifice to make compared to what those brave souls sacrificed !
