He's more of a cup manager than a league one which might suit international football quite well. Also well capable of a meltdown so he'll probably get us to the final and then **** off the entire FA and players on the eve of it.
He’s ok tbh not all that bit over rated imo Won Champions league with Chelsea, fair enough but did join the tournament half way through. Won a few made up 4 team tournaments a domestic cup and won trophies with PSG, which means as much as winning trophies with Celtic does…not much. plays pragmatic football as well will get out thunk by seasoned international managers over the course of a tournament imo
Got no problem with him ****ing off the FA tbf ... still hate the ****ers for denying Brian Clough a go...
It's changed a few times, 'back in the day' Di Stefano turned out for Argentina, Colombia & then Spain, and Puskas played for Hungary and then Spain. I think as long as you had a fascist dictator and played for Real, you could do what you wanted.
As opposed to the tactical genius that was Southgate? Tuchel outthought Pep a few times in his day. Is he the best possible manager England could have got, probably not, but anyway you look at it, he is a super upgrade on Gareth.
The game v Greece vindicated Southgate's tactics imo. And to be considered an upgrade he must win the WC or European championships, or he's not.
I don't agree with that either. Should be the pinnacle each counrty has to offer otherwise what's the point.
I'd say thats fair. Southgate won nothing so if Tuchel wins nothing also, its not an upgrade. But looking at their managerial record, Tuchel has won multiple tournaments where as Southgate has won nothing but relegation at club level. We'll see I guess
I didn't rate Southgate as a tactical genius, but he had the whole squad playing for each other and pulling in the same direction. Imo, that's far more important. He didn't need to be a tactical genius, he just had to get them playing something basic they all understood, they've already had some of the best coaching money can buy since they were 10, they know how to play.
To a point - but his loyalty to certain individuals, including playing them out of position so they were included was, metaphorically, a ball and chain tactically, from a 'team' perspective.. think Harry Kane might have had real ones attached to his ankles at the last tournament... Tuchel will be far more ruthless ... on both squad and team selection IMHO ...
If an England player is allowed to flirt with ****ing Ireland, Jamaica, Wales etc etc and then decide they want to play for England cos they're actually good enough - I see not a single reason why a foreign bloke cannot manage the national team. Bar the person complaining being a cave dwelling xenophobic knuckle dragger, which explains the Daily Mail getting on one about it. not rating the fella is one thing and completely OK but to complain purely cos he's a German is quite honestly insane.
You don't leave out the player who had just won both the European golden shoe and the CL golden boot, and had just scored 41 goals in 38 games.
Don’t think anyone really cares about him being German tbh. The King’s German, and no one ever complains about that.
Indeed. If he wins the World Cup I doubt anyone will give a **** what nationality he is. IF though....
Tuchel is a really good appointment imo When you look at the likes of Carsley, Potter, Howe and the other mediocre ****e on offer, this is a good move from the FA Of course he’ll be judged on results. But on paper it looks like a really good appt to me
Agree 100%. It may backfire and go to ****....but on paper its a good move and a sure fire upgrade on Southgate. If the FA had appointed Carsley, they would have, rightly so, been called out for appointing another inexperienced yes man. By all accounts they spoke to Pep and Carlo and neither were very interested. The only other options would have been people like Eddie Howe and Graham Potter who are decent managers, but not proven winners. I think the timing of this is purely down to the FA not wanting to risk Tuchel joining Man Utd at the end of the year. There is a real possibility that Erik Ten Hag will be sacked by christmas and its no secret that Tuchel was near the top of Uniteds wanted list, so I think the FA jumped on it and wrapped him up before Man United had a chance.
