After a post like that why not just come out and say that we are potless, where are the billionaires? Etc.
If the SMT really are trying to impose fixed numbers of kids on NJ it means they will roll over as soon as any offer comes in. It's what we've done over the years, sell them on the cheap, hoping for a sell-on fee, so we don’t get any real benefit, other than keeping the club afloat for a few more months. .
We could possibly plod along in L1 for a few more years like this, with a team based largely on Academy products, but without getting near the Championship. But we'll be losing money and the sh1t will hit the fan eventually. If Plan A was to get promoted and hope for a string of Parker/Gomez/Konsa standard graduates then it's a matter of time before the penny drops that Plan A is doomed. So what then- a Cunning Plan? I don't like to think about it tbh.
The problem with this painfully slow approach to promotion is that our fanbase withers that bit more every season we spend in League One. The low ambition Methven crawlers don’t seems to realise that younger fans have two other South London clubs to choose from, and they play in the Premier League & the Championship. League One is a luxury CAFC cannot afford.
Very true. We'll be dying off before very long. There are kids not too far off taking their GCSE's whose earliest Valley memories will be of things being thrown on the pitch, and the disembowelling of the fans' sofa when Burnley came to town. And you have to be in your late twenties to have childhood memories of Curbs managing the team. Charlton tumbled from grace in the early 1970's and the early 1980's - but we bounced right back against all the odds. Now here we are, all but one of our last eight seasons (soon to be nine) spent in the 3rd tier. And no real evidence that CAFC is on it's way back.
Methven is following the *exact same* playbook as he used at Sunderland. 1. Multiple distractions on trivia, 2. Slashing costs & budgets, 3. Interfering in playing matters, 4. Team stagnates >> gets worse. Promotion is not Methven’s most important target here …
I can't see why he wouldn't want promotion. We, and therefore he, would be much better off. As someone on CL said "I thought we'd get the Luton Nathan Jones, but it appears we've got the Stoke and Southampton Nathan Jones". These are his players. He didn't fancy Alfie, wanted all the poor players we know about.
Reams must feel very embarrassed at his sucking up to Methven. It was cringeworthy at the time, but given how poorly Methven has performed as CEO …
Don't I recall one of the Sages of Wisdom on ITTV once claiming that the Championship is more of a black hole than League One, and that if we get back there our losses will simply accelerate? It was probably one of the Roland apologists who claimed that his 'break-even' policy was good for the Club.
Our fans need to make clear to Methven than half & half scarves are another s hit stain on the reputation of the club. Does anyone know someone who has got quote “a direct line to the boardroom “ ?
A summary of the reaction of our fanbase to the Wrexham half & half stuff. Twitter - fans hate it Charlton Life - fans hate it 606 - fans hate it ITTV - 3 posts all day about Fot Mob and Swiss Ramble. Not clear what either geek website thinks of it.
Has nobody over there really lifted their head up over the parapet and derided the half & half stuff? It's a bad joke. ITTV - the only forum where it's healthier to keep your opinions to yourself
