Less clearly a brilliant manager. Though in fairness I recall that he did well in Holland and ManU are clearly an absolute nuthouse of a club, so maybe a bit of a poisoned chalice that one. Thinking about it I think the fundamental point is that at Man City, less crazy times United, PSG or whichever ‘big’ club, if your left winger or whatever is a bit dodgy you buy another one and the manager’s job is as much managing egos as it is making tactical decisions. At England you’re limited by who qualifies to play for England and, whilst you’ll still have big egos to contend with, it becomes much more about getting a tune out of a much more limited pool of players.
That applies to half the clubs in the Premier League, but he's the only one to have won six of the last seven titles.
Probably sums up my feelings entirely... I too believe England should be managed by an Englishman but I'm not convinced the F.A will necessarily go down that path, our feelings will not influence them in the slightest. Tuchel? I don't get that either but both Klopp and Guardiola rate him very highly? It could be nonsense but there are rumours out there that he'll be the next incoming at Man Utd(replacing the flop that is Ten Hag). His name doing the rounds could force Man Utd into swift action and there's a possibility that's exactly what he(Tuchel) is pushing for? As for recruiting a top English coach, who is there? Howe?Doubtful, and as OLM has pointed out, would cost a fortune to buy out his contract. That's not to say they won't go for him but much depends on the finances of such a deal. Looking through other options in the Premier League, there's not much in terms of up and coming coaches who catch the eye,the top tier of our League is rammed full of foreign names, that speaks volumes to me!! You've hit the nail squarely on the head in your first sentence(going for someone much better than any available English Manager)...Guardiola comes to mind immediately and my hunch is that is exactly where the F.A are looking.
I wouldn’t be too upset about a foreign born manager that has lived here a long time and has British citizenship. I would still prefer a true Englishman. I couldn’t really accept any more random foreign appointments like Eriksson or Capello, which Tuchel would most certainly be. It’s not club football it can’t be just anyone.
Fair point, but I should maybe have also said that as well as FFP he’s also pretty much unconstrained by budget, which is more unique. The only comparable club I can see is PSG.
In the past five seasons, Man City's net spend is 6th in the league, Chelsea have spent over twice as much (Man United, Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle also spent more).
Really? I’m at work now so can’t really check, but if that’s accurate for wages and transfer fees then fair enough.
I'm all for England to have an English manager in principle, if any exception is made it has to be for the very top, Tuchel isn't the very top, however Guardiola is, we all know this and his contract ends next summer, he's also capable of doing both jobs until then. We need to win a trophy. I'm Tuchel no, Guardiola yes.
A lot of people keep saying that. Other than the owners being disliked by a large section of the fan base, in what way are they now still "an absolute nuthouse of a club' ? Ten Haag has been coach now for nearly 2 1/2 years. He's had 5 transfer windows. That's reasonable stability.
No not ever Neve should have appointed Sven or capello even tho I did like capello It’s the whole reason for internationals Our lot against your lot Otherwise why not just have transfers? Well buy haaland off Norway
I think the Greece game was the final nail in his coffin, not just because he completely screwed up the team selection, but because having done so, he didn't take immediate action to remedy it.
Tuchel in advanced talks for the job, which would be the final nail in the coffin. We've tried foreign coaches in other sports and you only have to look at the absolute disasters that are the England cricket team, the England women's football team, and the England women's rugby team to know that it won't work. If the England manager can't trace their ancestry back to Edward the Confessor then they're dead to me.
