I remember my oldest son doing the same thing when he was nine. He was an excellent keeper - I had visions of taking him to Watford for a trial a few years later, but was gutted when he gave football away and started playing Rugby League.

He probably got told off for being too forward thinking and attacking!

That is a shame - does he play rugby league of any standard now?

No - he gave that away too - got married, got a full time job whilst studying at university so gave up sport for a while. He's now into four wheel drive trekking and fishing.

Maybe a sign of the times <doh> Kylian Mbappe has apparently informed the French National team that he only wants to play in the most important matches in order to avoid all chance of injury which might spoil his chances of winning the Ballon D'or 2025 !!! The latter being his top priority. I always thought the guy was a prat but this has just confirmed it.

The way money was taking over the game, I think it was inevitable. Too many clubs could cut their grass but couldn't cut their cloth.

Seems Tuchel has got the England job.

Being German Tuchel will need to have an instant impact and not fall out with the media otherwise knives will be out for him early !

I thought they were unlucky not to win - their talisman missed the only clear cut chance of the match, unusual for him.

    paywall...
Prima-facie the incompetence of all concerned is staggering. That's the difference between rules and laws in football: the game itself is defined by laws and the competitions by rules. Laws usurp rules. Had there been an unregistered player amongst that lot then I think there would have been an expulsion, but as all was in order as they played... Sensible decision, as the referees decision is "final" - even when it's demonstrably wrong.

You're not wrong - two seasons ago Banks o' Dee (in their first season in the Highland League) were deducted 24 points for fielding two unregistered players.

A rather annoying read about how Americans are taking over our game, all in the name of money.

"And how real are concerns that these US owners could collude to “Americanise” the traditions of the Premier League – whether by reducing the risk of relegation, introducing some form of “draft pick” system, or moving matches and even clubs to other cities?"

I'd like to think that football fans everywhere would reject this out of hand - but am non-too confident that they would. I'm already dangerously close to completely losing interest in the sport - this would probably tip me over the edge.
