I have read many comments about this initiative, both for and against. My personal opinion is that the club is pitching to totally the wrong demographic with this initiative. I have no doubt that the SMT will get the sugar rush of an artificial, one off boost to the match day attendance on the day, but I’d equally guarantee that they will put no metrics in place to monitor how many of these people come back again, and pay £28 to watch us play Stevenage etc. You Tubers in the main are what I would call the Gen Z version of Seriously Red. Geeks & nerds, with no interest in football. They won’t be at the Valley on 25 Oct to marvel at the skills of Gassan Ahadme, but rather to get a selfie with “Rob & Ryan”. I would suggest that people watch Sunderland Til I Die. That buffoonish delusionist Charles Methven tried many similar “initiatives” while at Sunderland, and they almost all failed. Sunderland now sit at the top of the Championship, and average over 40,000 this season. When all said and done, all real football fans want is a competitive football team to watch. You can stick gimmicks such as this one up your chuff.

I hadn’t realised until today that the club (ie Methven) is paying Mark Goldbridge to do this. While totally getting the fact that it’s a gimmick not aimed at 606 members ( @lardiman has only just bought an Amstrad computer) , I can’t see how it’s going to create a single new Charlton fan. This is all flim flam. A properly funded and competitive team, playing attractive football , is the only way to rebuild any club.
SE7 is not interested in rebuilding the Club. It's pimping the Club in order to make a few cheap bucks here and there. Latching onto any fad or fancy that currently has the miniscule attention span of Generation Goldfish. And they think they can hoodwink lifelong fans into believing they are being innovative and modern, taking CAFC into some kind of shiny cyber-future. Calling stuff like this 'flim flam' is spot on, but staggeringly under-stated in my opinion. It is as shallow, deceitful, cynical, toxic and corrosive as all that b*llocks about a network of European Clubs we had to put up with from the Old Scrote and his grinning assassin. There is a very good reason why I increasingly choose to live in the past. Only a new owner who believes in your last line will haul me back to the present. Sadly I truly wonder now if I'll live long enough to see one.

Nobody is against innovation, if it boosts revenue for the club. But it is strange that the forum fans who are always the most gushing about gimmicks - and to be fair this doesn’t include Global on this occasion - are the exact same ones who always excuse the SMT / owners for not spending on what really matters - the team. After 10 league games, anyone with an IQ in double figures who’s name is not Charles Methven or Charles Hawtrey can already see that these spoofers haven’t spent enough on the squad again.
I will say it again. If you get the product right on the pitch the fans will return. This SMT are big on gimmicks, but what is needed is a squad that is going to get us promoted and the owners have not accumulated a squad to do that. It doesn't matter what chicken or beer is served or if they have a playground in the West Stand car park. Just stop bullshitting the fans with your false promises. We certainly don't need a Man U fan who loses his **** online coming to our game.
