    cheeky **** <grr>
yeah basic X frame folding chairs based on the original Everest and Jennings from the 40's can be got pretty cheap from all over Argos for example used to sell them and for all i know still do .
Go to a rigid lightweight like most active users have and you are looking at retail approx £2k upwards

oh should have added that the NHS has done a deal with Invacare and Sunrise medical ( who basically own nearly all wheelchair manufacturers ) and get the much cheaper which means you have little option but to select one as the voucher they offer will go nowhere near covering the cost of your selected chair unlike previously .

It isn't surprising that more than one Trust has made the same decision. It obviously isn't a top down policy or there would be many more.
Both wheelshare's website and the answer given by the trust in the article linked say that the service is free to patients.
Last time I went to my local hospital it took me about 400m of walking to find a free wheelchair for my wife. I'm surprised you think that's fine. Personally I'm happy to leave it to local management to decide how to provide this service.

It’s always the same sort who owns these companies that get the big contracts or hospital deals for parking or equipment.

    Corruption at its best.

Edit- just seen the actual wheelshare list and it’s even more corrupt.

I posted the wrong company. Sorry! See my reply to PS above.
Edit: The company seems rather small and clearly isn't based in the UK.
At least two of their three directors worked for KPMG in the past.
I think the third did too, but it's harder to search for, as his name's literally Israel.

That’s even worse. How has a small foreign company got that contract?

I fear for the supermarkets near hospitals, they're going to have an appalling trolley shortage soon...

It absolutely is a surprise that several NHS trusts just so happened to come to the exact same conclusion at the exact same time, because as a client of Croydon Health Services trust I can not only mention numerous times two NHS trusts can't come to the same conclusion without somebody pushing down from above (or from the legal department) but even times where getting discharged from Mayday Croydon University Hospital requires superhuman patience as the departments can't even agree to sign you out until they suddenly form a consensus as you're literally walking out the door because they've been jerking you around for 2-3 hours and you just want to go home at that point

And no, the service is not free to use, as King's College's own website makes clear: the first four hours are free, but as waiting times in King's are up to 12 hours that means it is possible that people will be paying £2 an hour for up to eight hours. Even the photo attached to the original tweet I posted makes it abundantly clear that it is not a free service, meaning that there is some blatant omission going on. So who is lying: King's, or Wheelshare? I'm going to hazard a guess that the company pretending it's based in the UK is the likely culprit for that

I do not think that it's fine that uncourteous dickheads dump wheelchairs wherever, hence I described them as uncourteous dickheads in the first place. But how does charging people to use a wheelchair, something that is free in my local NHS trust but not at Kings or the other listed trusts, going to change that? Supermarkets charging £1 for trolleys did not stop people leaving them in the car park where they would block traffic from coming or going nor did it stop people nicking trolleys because it was only a quid, it only pissed people off to the point on more than one occasion I'd see people with a basket in each hand rather than pay for a trolley, and the worst thing an NHS trust can do is piss somebody off to the point they refuse to pay for a wheelchair so risk making their injury worse

And no, I am absolutely not fine with leaving local management to make a decision, considering the management of my trust made the decision to change the name of my local hospital in an effort to stop it being known locally as "May Die" instead of address any possible issues that give it such a dismal reputation in the first place

Former Russia Today presenter Alex Salmond has died at the age of 69.
He was taken ill during a speech in North Macedonia and passed away shortly afterwards, apparently.

One of the most influential politicians in modern Scottish history.

Controversial to say the least though.

Most people are waiting more than 4 hours I believe.

And if Wes Streeting isn’t responsible for it then who is? IMG_5244.jpeg

    Can't get a wheelchair? Nick a trolley

Could be worse: I know somebody who lived next to Lewisham hospital who was stealing their WiFi for three years...

One thing worth noting about the SNP vote

I know a couple of Scots, and they liked Salmond - though were split on Sturgeon...and I never bothered asking about Yusuf, as I lost contact with them in the interim, mainly as one of them is in a fatass scooter these days
