Fortunately, the sack came at just the right time for Bruce, as Fenwick's are currently recruiting for a portly gent to play Santa, over the festive season.

The down-side however, is that if he gets the job, he will still be stuck having to wear red and white kit!

He could go back to Santas original strip, green and white.
Not Coca Colas home strip. <ok>

He was ultimately sacked because he was doing poorly, but the fact he's a Geordie put him under more pressure from the fans.

I know. My father is a Brummie and we've known one fact about Bruce for years and years, and I've repeated it on many a forum, usually before the team he's with even tire of him...

Steve Bruce is fantastic at managing in an existing set-up, with the players already in place and the only thing wrong with the club pre-Bruce was results... In essence he does well with the little pressure of just making the best of what he's got. He thrives in that circumstance. However, as soon as the board are prepared to give him money, he wastes it horrificly. He's just a bad spender/consumer. Think back to any of his reigns, his one diamond is often at the expense of many an incoming donkey... That's what he's done to pretty much any club he's been at longer than a year. At the point where his club has become saturated with mediocre at great expense, and where the expectations have exponentially risen as a result, he has struggled, and it's at this point that he hops on a sideways career barge out of town and leaves a mess behind him.
If ever a man needed a director of football, it's him.

I believe, as a result of this, he'd do well for Blackburn Rovers.

His 'roots' only came into play when the results collapsed.

I think he bottled the derbies through a combination of his heritage and his incompetance. He let the former affect the latter and call it what you want its unprofessional imo.

Better that we now have a completely impartial manager who can concentrate on just wining against ANY oppostion.

Totally random picture with nothing whatsoever to do with any post or the thread for the win! <ok>

Shouldn't you be looking for pictures of little girls and boys?

Nothing to do with being a Geordie.

Everything to do with being a bad manager

As has been said Cest the national newsies always seem to try to bring up the worst of the NE clubs.
If they don't get the quote they want, they keep trawling till they do.
I can't see MON being a happy chappy if we capitulate and roll over in any game never mind the derbies. <ok>

It just goes to show how ignorant people such as Sir Alex is about North east football...There are thousands of Geordies who are also Sunderland fans, and I'm fed up with people falling for John Hall's publicity stunt of NUFC representing 'The Geordie Nation'...
For the record, I don't think it had too much to do with him supporting the Skunks as a boy either...It was all about results in the past year or so...

Some very constructive posting there Tash, you'd fit right in with GC.

As for the topic at hand, Fergie does seem to like to have his say about the North-East, although I do have to agree that being a Geordie wouldn't have helped Bruce, it certainly wasn't anything to do with why he was sacked.

Got to be honest, being a geordie didn't help Bruce, but that only came in April after Sunderland were embarrassed 5-0 at Man City in April and that was a MINIORITY. Since then it has grown slightly with every defeat until it reached a level after Saturday when the fans reaction left the owner with no choice. So can see why people think that and why people don't. Simple fact for me at this point in time he was failing and he would have been a risk managing them against Wolves and Blackburn games that Sunderland need to be winning.

And the more reasonable Mags who post on the SAFC board wonder why we always think the worst, Tash and his ilk will never change.

Haven't been on GC for awhile but I hear the inane bile spouted about Speed was totally OTT.

    Tash fits right in there.
