Been chatting to a mate at work who is a Mackem, and we were discussing Brucies sacking and he was saying he thought it was disrespectful to try and say one of the reasons Bruce was sacked was because he was a Geordie.

I agreed it was more down to the fact his team selection and tactics were a shower of ****.

And now flicking through Newsnow I see Fergie being as quoted as saying
"Fans just don't have the patience any longer. Just see what happened to Steve Bruce up in the north-east, where being a Geordie didn't help him."

    WTF would he know?

I know fans chanted "fat geordie bastard get out of our club" or something along those lines, but belive that to be more name calling and not the actual reason they wanted him out of the club.

    What do people think?
Are the press making people of the NE in genral look to be fickle?

Him being a geordie shouldnt affect anything and his sacking was more than justified, but I think it dug at Sunderland fans especially after he failed to deliver a derby win.

I agree his roots had nothing to do with his sacking.
Players have played for both teams without the name calling
    B.Stokoe proves a point

I can understand it not sitting right with them after the derby defeats, just think the press are making more out it than it actually matters.

Had he brought success or a top 10 finish like last seson they didn't give a toss where he was from, so why are the press making it out that is suddenly does when he get's the sack?

Just think it's a load of bollox

Being a Geordie didn't seem to bother the Unwashed when they beat Bolton 2-0. SAFC board was full of " at last Brucie is doing what we want" and other crap.

  9. To be honest, I don't hate Brucie. I just enjoyed seeing him miserable. He looked like wanted to cry at times, i lol'd.

I don't think anyone would object to him coming to a Newcastle match now, he got his just deserts for managing Sunderland, and we had a laugh.

He has the potential to do well, I don't know why he seemed to do fantastic with Sunderland at the start of two seasons, and then fall off towards the end.

Same as when you lot were calling the Cockney mafia, nothing to do with where they came from, all to do with what they were doing to your club.
Bruce being a **** manager just makes it easier to hang the Geordie tag on him.
    Plus singing....

"Your tactics are inept, you don't have a plan B, even though you seem a canny bloke, get out of our club!"

Just doesn't have the same ring to it. :p

  11. Yes but you have to admit your fans did take the fact that he was a geordie and use it against him sometimes... howay... admit it!

The press always seem to have it in for us NE clubs. As a certain Mr Stokoe proves, being a Geordie will not have been the issue. Bruce was a clown and I could have done a better job than them. Sunderland are a team that should be pushing on and doing better than they have been. Top 10 this season and they should be looking for similar again (below us of course)

Leeds fan in peace. Pity about Steve Bruce being sacked. Think he'll find a new club quite quickly & they'll benefit fom his knowledge & experience. As to why he was sacked, I think him being a Geordie had less to do with it than Sunderland's current league position.

That's my point, you use where they are from for name calling. Not because the fact he's a Geordie or the Cockney Mafia being where they were from.

Was curious to see if Mackems had the same opinion with the fact he was a Geordie and the fact the press are making out that the fans drove him out for that rather than the recent run of results.

He did have a knack of setting himself up for falls, particularly the song he was going to play or his quote of "One of our targets is to finish above them"

Have personal ragets but keep them in house
