Should we have a poor season upto December I imagine they'll be having another chat. Another poor season then I imagine Charlie and chums will be going to their solicitors regarding their pay offs.
They need to address the SMT as well , get someone in that actually scouts players properly not look at some poxy Xg statistics!
Godden talking about us going back to being a nasty team that’s horrible to play against v Birmingham. I understand (sort of) what he means, but this type of public comment from a player still suggests to me that the whole ethos at the club under Jones is wrong. The Crazy Gang in the 1980s used to say exactly the same thing - everyone dreads playing us - and they played ugly hoofball as well. Players who are passionate & committed & tackle hard are also capable of playing attractive, pass & move football. The big issue at the moment - especially since Jones ruined a settled defence at the Blackpool game - is our football has gone from rustic to medieval. I think most fans will be happy with a point on Saturday, but after all the chest beating and bravado the shine has well & truly come off NJ, and he’s now got a lot to prove.
It's no wonder we're sh1t in the first half, we're the only team that doesn't start with It's strongest eleven. One goal in 10 first halves. If Leaburn gets back to his best you'll want him to stay on for the 90 if we need a goal, so what happens then?
I didn’t go but listened to the commentary, it seemed to be well deserved. As you say stick to this formation. It seems to suit the players. Credit also to Jones.
I'm not impressed at all. Yes, great win today. Good morale booster for fans at the Valley. But where's the evidence that Jones did anything except stumble on the winning team by anything other than blind chance? If he's going to get it right once every four or five games we are going nowhere. Two or three more good wins in October and I might revise my scepticism.
Extremely harsh. Credit to Jones for changing the formation. You have got to celebrate a win against the best team in the league who have spent a ton of money. Credit to the players for putting in a real shift.
I did say great win today. I didn't have a pop at the players. I just want our manager to convince me it wasn't a fluke that he can't re-create. Before today the team have stunk the place out week in, week out.
Jones was touchy in his post match press conference, claiming that he had been “abused by Charlton fans” this week I think you are right in that he may have stumbled on this formation, but regardless of that, he’s found it now & needs to stick with it.
Jones is feeling the pressure. The occasional decent win won't get Charlton promoted. And apart from SeriouslyRed, no Charlton fan will be impressed by a 10th place finish and a 6th season in League One. Get us promoted NJ, or get out of the Club. And stop whining. You were happy to take the Job. Now get it done.
“The players absolutely let us down on Tuesday. I took responsibility for that…” oh my Sounds very much to me that he’s not taking responsibility. Good win today but boy he’s high maintenance by the looks of it.
My guess is that Nathan Jones has some bruises from his time at Stoke City & Southampton, where both fanbase’s ended up turning on him because of his bad results. He has had nothing like that from us. We took 500 fans to Bristol Rovers on a Tuesday night, to see a team with 6 defeats in 7 games beat us. Our football by and large has been awful to watch up until today. Of course our fans are not going to be happy.
