We didn't deserve to win, obviously

Has highlighted our frailties, both players, effort for someand at times dogma to the style. Hopefully can to a degree be addressed during the international break

Positives, hit the crossbar and another day..., possible penalty at the end end and possibly a goal that should have been awarded (watched it 3 times and still unsure), we kept going forward, substitutes made a difference, hopefully Hughes will have a huge learning curve from that.

The sun is shining, the world is still turning, I never expected this to be the 'season', hopefully we can build, continue with some good recruitment and next season push on.
Still don't fully understand WalterBall..., it can work and given time and the right players we'll see.
Or we can sack managers on a regular basis if it doesn't work quickly enough?

Miserable first half, but some positives to take from the second. Alzate was very good indeed, found space, used it, sprayed the ball around. I'd like to see him replacing the ineffective Mehlem or the slightly less ineffective Slater for the next game. I thought Millar came up against a very good fullback and got comprehensively outplayed, probably an indication of why he's a mid-table Championship player. Kamara did much better and surely deserves a go next time. Also worth considering Giles in the same light, Drameh wasn't as terrible as some have made out, but our left hand side did improve with Giles on. Pedro looks, even on that brief cameo, like our starting striker once fully fit. Finally just in case anyone's agreed with any of that, couple of points that won't get much agreement I'd guess.
    1) Despite a clunky defensive display and a huge mistake, I'd give Hughes another chance. He played more good passes through to CM players than Macca has all season, and if we want to make the Suicide Squad approach work we need someone who can do that.
    2) Pandur kept us in the game early on, but if Allsop had conceded the first and the fourth I wonder what the reaction would have been.

There are some absolute tossers on there. Most of them members of the sit down shut up brigade types.

I rarely go on the actual group, but they're not the posts that tend to pop up on my timeline.

Sunday league defending an embarrassing performance.
May post again after the next game if I can be arsed but looking forward to pictures of what I had for dinner and what not over the next week or so.

Nothing to do with algorithms. I just go on now and again and have a look, nothing to do with what pops on algorithms.

Point is the ones that get most interactions do. And they're far from 'sit down shut up' type posts.

Like most games it will have looked worse for those there than watching on TV as you see more of what is going on all over the pitch away from the ball.

I wish Walter would also explain the benefit of getting McLaughlin so far up the pitch that he has the ball outside the oppositions box and just looks clumsy with it.

What was the benefit of Jones being slipped in by Belloumi only for Jones to cross the ball in like…well…a centre back :emoticon-0145-shake

Didn’t say the posts were about sitting down and shutting up, I said some of the posters appear to be the sit down shut up types.

Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"The start of the game against Watford was brilliant and it was the same again today.

"We created two big chances before scoring the first goal and then kept on going - I loved the second goal, that was just beautiful.

"Our top moments have shown, especially at home, that we have the quality to outplay some teams, but there is room for improvement.

"We just have to make sure in the future that we can play even more minutes with that intensity and that energy - you can see moments when we defended a little bit too low and had difficulty playing (the ball) out a couple of times."

I'm not sure many of them have yet evolved sufficiently to have a 'type'.

Think this sums up how the season is going to be under Walter.

    upload_2024-10-5_15-16-24.png

Today was pathetic, though. The players looked tired and we keep starting like ****ing donkeys. Don't know why he didn't rotate after the last game given that our squad is so big. The midfield didn't work at all and although Zambrano did look good, he wasn't at the standard he was in previous appearances and again looked tired. Belloumi and Millar couldn't get in the game which meant we spent large periods of the game pinned in and how Bedia is expected to be this lone frontman when the wingers drop so deep is beyond me. When we did get out, the final ball was poor (again).

At the moment, teams just need to press us and we shrink. We have the quality, but again I find myself questioning exactly what the identity of the team is supposed to be. We barely pressed at all and seemed happy to let the home team have the ball and create chances. If I didn't know better I'd say we were quite reliant on other teams giving the ball away or making mistakes.

I think the reason we've done so well when we've gone behind is that teams have then sat back and tried to get us to attack them and leave space, which is ironic considering that was what Hamburg fans were saying were Tim's biggest issues. When we play teams who aren't going to sit in, it's a really vulnerable tactic and leaves us wide open.

The first two goals are because of massive gaps in midfield and full back, the third is a nightmare for a young debutant and the last one was just crap all round. Doing all the rotation stuff is fine in possession, but out of possession we need to be far more disciplined and it only takes one player being out of position when the ball is turned over to leave us hugely exposed. I don't know why it happens, but whenever there's a big switch from the opposition there's almost never a City full back there to apply the pressure or stop the cross/dribble.

The next game is going to be about getting a response, but these issues have been here since pre season so I'm going to assume games like today aren't going to be a freak occurrence.

I agree with most of what you say, I think our best midfield going forward would be Palmer/Alzate/Zambrano IMO.

On Hughes to say give him another chance, I think he looks a much better option than Macca, yes, he made a couple of errors, but it's his first game, so I would certainly go with him going forward.
