Watford are on their travels again this Saturday. This time they travel east to Ipswich. Ipswich Town could have let the goal machines that are Nathan Ellington and Tamas Priskin play against their former employers, but TP is scoring freely on loan at Derby County.

    IPSWICHTOWN

    The Manager – Paul Jewell

    Paul_Jewell.jpg

“As I said when I joined I think it’s a long-term project and I’ll keep going and keep fighting – that’s all you can do. I’m embarrassed walking past all those supporters that have come all that way (to Burnley) to see that garbage”

“I’m proud as punch to be manager of IpswichTown, but I think some of my players just see it as another game. It isn’t just another game, there are people who have done a 500-mile round trip tonight, probably had a day off work to put up with that. It’s unbelievable that a team which not so long ago was looking like a decent team now suddenly looks like a pub team. I’m the manager and I carry the can, but some of the things that are happening on the pitch – I just don’t know where they are coming from.”

    • The Tractor Boys

    David Stockdale
Carlos Edwards, Danny Collins, Ibrahima Sonko, Aaron Cresswell
Lee Martin, Lee Bowyer, Keith Andrews (c) - goal 45 mín. caution 83 mín., Daryl Murphy
Jason Scotland, Nathan Ellington for Michael Chopra - 77 mín.

Substitutes: Arran Lee-Barrett, Nathan Ellington, Jimmy Bullard, Josh Carson, Reece Wabara.

Update on the Tractor Boys' latest statistics

    WATFORD

    • The Goalkeeper – Scott Loach

    scott.jpg

"I've got to hold my hands up - it wasn't Mapps' (Adrian Mariappa) fault, He played a back-pass to me and 99 times out of 100 you stop them, control and clear. This time, I've lost my concentration for a split-second and it's ended up in a goal."

" These things happen; the main thing was I thought we bounced back well and we didn't let it affect us during the second half. These things happen; the main thing was I thought we bounced back well and we didn't let it affect us during the second half."

    • The Hornets

    Scott Loach
Lee Hodson, Adrian Mariappa (c), Nyron Nosworthy - caution 51 mín., Carl Dickinson - caution 63 mín.
Mark Yeates, Jonathan Hogg, John Eustace for Prince Buaben 65 mín., Craig Beattie for Michael Kightly - 89 mín.
Marvin Sordell - penalty 70 mín. caution 81 mín., Troy Deeney - goal 74 mín for Chris Iwelumo - 66 mín.

Substitutes: Jonathan Bond (gk), David Mirfin, John Eustace, Craig Beattie, Troy Deeney

    Current form
The wheels look like they have fallen off the IpswichTown tractor. Six defeats in arrow is not good form at all. Seven goals against 18 is worrying including three 2-3 defeats. Watford have managed five games with only one defeat, five goals marked for and three against even if Adrian Mariappa scored one for the opponents.

Akureyri's Prediction: 2-1 Ipswich Towns poor form, and recent seasons form against Watford, will stop and the visitors will return home without any points. Watford will dominate the football game but suffer their usual failing, of not many goals.

We have to win this. We need to take our home form on the road and start getting good results. Although that said i dont think we will. However, Posh thrashed them and we beat posh so anything could happen.

I have gone for a 1-2 win to the 'Orns.

Also great thread as always AK. <ok>

My computer has been bad tonight and this took three attempts. I had to switch the computer off once as it was overheating and was running at over 100% of CPU. The thing needs a servicing.

Okay, since i thought we might win 1-2, i've had a rethink and i'm going to go with my usual prediction of 1-3. Ipswich is a team we do tend to beat, and though we're not playing at our best, they're on a bad run..which some might say has to end soon, but i don't think it will on Saturday. This will be a good away win for us, and the first for a long while (was it Reading?)

We are pretty good at defying the odds and not winning vs teams in poor form......but SURELY we have to win this?

Ipswich have good players on paper so......obviously anything can happen. Still, we are playing good football and they are arguably the worst team in the league on their form.

    Would accept a draw but....hope for a 1-2 win.

Psychologically this is probably the most important game of the season for either club.

If Ipswich lose, their seven game losing streak will include pretty much all of the smaller teams in the division (apart from Barnsley, who they face in their next game), and we will be a worse linesman's decision than Man United have had all season away from our seventh game unbeaten.

If they win, they'll start to believe that they can compete again. By contrast I think the backlash from Watford fans would be comparable to what it was after Forest. Especially if, as I expect, Sordell doesn't start as an injury precaution, and Eustace replaces Buaben on the grounds that he can't be any less anonymous in an attacking role than Prince was against Bristol.

I think the main reason prince was rather anonymous on tuesday was because they had a 5-man midfield so we struggled to win the 50-50 balls and struggled to break them down. He did make a few good forward passes so was not totally useless. However, Eustace prefers to pass sideways and backwards.

Great thread AK as ever , many thanks for your efforts!
Dan I think your right about the Prince, I dont think the Eusty Hogg Midfield works that well ,far to negative!
will be happy with a point , although we wont get a better chance this season to collect another away win!
All depends on how Sean sets up the team!

I rate Prince, but the fact is that he was playing well, has dropped off in recent weeks, and now's probably time to try and figure out why, even if only for a game or two.

shows the need for another creative attack minded midfielder of quality! of which we have several , but Sean wont use them coz they are too young<grr>

Would say a similar story in attack as well ! Big Chris imho does not warrant a starting place week in week out!

I don't know why some of you are thinking about losing!

This will be the easiest 3 points you will earn all season.

Welcome to Portman Road boys and please remember to smile when you take the 3 points! <ok>

Nice one again ak. <ok> I am going for a close Watford win, fingers crossed.

I am afraid that I will not be in attendance tomorrow or next Saturday due to motoring duties. :(

Maybe the team will do better without me. ;)

My heart says 3 . 2 Town win but the closer we get the more thinking that we're going to get another lesson . You probably won't see a more pathetic team at home all season and we have to put up with it week in week out. 1 . 4 away win .........

You can tell we're not doing very well from the lack of townies input on a cross-board match thread. The last few results have taken it out of us so much we haven't even got the strength to banter.
I do however hope our players (if you can call them that) have the strength to stop your recent hoodoo over us.
    Nice match thread AK.

We're not out of the woods by any stretch, and our team have taken a few batterings already this season. We felt a bit like you do now just a few weeks ago, i suspect you will turn it around, i just hope you wait until after this saturday because we really need the points!
