Disagree with most of the comments here. Sunderland have a decent squad on paper but desperately need motivation. I think MON could provide that.

Thing to remember is that you are only 5 points away from 8th place!!! A half decent run of results could see you run right up the table

That is true at the same time if they lost the next 5 games they would be bottom of the league, but is worth remembering that after Everton had played us 3 games ago they were, where Sunderland are now.

Sunderland's squad is obviously better than their league position suggests and I have no doubt O'Neill will improve on Bruce's record, but I dont know if he's good enough to worry us. Pardew's doing brilliantly in every aspect and we have a stronger team to begin with.

Beye, Davies, Reo-Coker, Sidwell and Harewood all signing who didn't feature much.

Reo-Coker played 109 games for Aston Villa and was stand in captain, he had a bust up with MON though.

Beye 9 games, but then the next 2 managers havnt played him either, so maybe not just MON.

Davies fair enough but he did get a bad shoulder injury.

Sidwell he did play 59 games whilst MON was manager.

Harewood playing in the Chinese league now, enough said on that one i think.

yesterday i didnt want MON, because he turned us down once before and I thought he had wasted millions and spit his dummy out at Villa, and also didnt take his time at Celtic seriously, but now after doing some research and seeing what he actually did do at villa, and what others around him done, I am looking forward to him (if its him) signing on the dotted line.

I also hate the mags taking the piss, but at least i am coming back with facts (crap or good they are still facts lol) and not just **** OFF!! like some i could mention. (why cant you write **** in caps?)

Reo-Coker played 109 games and Sidwell 59 <yikes>, must not have made much of impression, how many games did Luke Young play. I do remember there were 7 of his signings delighted to see the back of him.

Are these starts because I thought Villa signed Luke Young in 2008, O'Neill left 2010 and in the 2009/10 Cuellar played a lot at right back.

Over the course of a season, Sunderland don't have enough to worry us. Our squad is better and Pardew is at least on par with O'Neill. But I do worry for the game at SJP, Bruce was just the master at making them terrible in those games.

Its 1am and I feel like **** (sore throat and a splitting headache) so i just done a quick look on wikipedia, if i can be bothered tomorrow I may check them out on ESPN soccernet, they are more in depth, but dont bank on me doing that.

anyway off to watch the NFL till 5am, so might be back tomorrow if this thread still has life.

O'Neill could go either way. His record isn't really all that great in England, bottled it at Villa eventually, bottled it because he went in the huff at Norwich, can't really judge him on managing Wycombe and he done well at Leicester but he myst have spent a few bob to have Savage,Lennon etc in his side. I'm not to scared of an O'Neill revolution, would rather have Pards anyday.
